Spinal Cord Stimulator

Posted , 146 users are following.

Has anyone had a spinal cord stimulator,it has been one suggestion for my husband who is still suffering after 4 years after his first surgery, he has had a further op two years ago and is still suffering immense pain, has weakness in his leg and finds walking difficult and now needs a stick to walk with. I am hoping someone has had a spinal cord stimulator that has had similar condition as my husband because as I understand it it is only a minor op to implant.  I think the other option is fusion which I have heard horror stories about, especially as he doesn't seem to have success with major ops.  Thanks

Which one do they want to implant? The Bostonian, Medtronic, or Nevro?

    Kilee,

I'm glad the Nevro is working for you.  How does the battery work? I've heard so many stories.  Is it a pain to charge it every day? Does it turn itself off when it gets to 101 degrees, and if so, do you have to start over with charging it? I'm really anxious to know.

    Thanks,

    Linda

Linda recharging the battery is easy. The kit includes a Velcro type belt with a pouch for the charging unit and one for the little pad that lays against the implant area. I simply put it on and do my daily chores. I forget that it is there. When it is done I hear a little buzzer and the charger shuts off. I understand that if it reaches a high temperature it would simply shut off. My charging time ranges from 20 - 35 minutes.

If I had some reason to turn off the nevro it would be easy to turn back on. I don't know what would cause thethe other SCS unites to get hot enough to burn but my understanding is that the nevro would not reach those temperatures before shutting off.

      Linda,

Hi went to the pain center today to get my meds, was seen by an APRN of course the one I don't really care for but she was so sweet to me, and I showed her my battery site and I have an Appointment to see the Dr immediately since the battery is not positioned right so she was very concerned for me, thank god, I showed them before but they said it looked ok but now it definitely pushed out so that's why I am so uncomfortable, but thank god they are getting me to the Dr the earliest appointment on March 17th 8:40 am, so I will find out what he wants to do. As I knew that there was a problem. When I do go I'll let you know what he says.

Take care and hopefully a pain free day

Ask them to give you an earlier appointment if someone cancels.

      Kilee,

Definitely going to, its isn't sitting right, I think that's why I'm having problems I hope it is fixable or maybe might have to take out, my body likes to reject any foreign objects, same with the screws and bars from fusion years ago, mind you I haven't seen my doctor since September when surgery was done.

      Smh

      Cynthia,

Thank goodness they are finally listening to you! You just have to keep after them.  It took me a month to explain to Dr. Kuppasamy that my pain is in different areas. That's why he is going to do the next RFA in a different area.  I had to insist on speakng to him directly because I kept talking to the NP and she would go talk to him, and the interpretation got mixed up every time.   Good luck! I sure hope it relieves some of your pain.  I have been so much better the last couple of days.

Thank you so much for the update.  So your's has not overheated? I am seriously considering it.  I still have my medtronic neurostimulator implanted.  I have to keep it low so it doesn't go into my foot with neuropathy because it aggravates it.  I finally decided I'm going to meet with the Medtronics reps to see if they can program it NOT to go into my foot, and to try to get higher up in my legs.  Because it works between my knees and my foot, and that part actually helps.

Would you please let me know if yours is overheating?

      Thanks,

      Linda

      Linda,

I am so happy your pain is better, I hope it stays that way, and I am happier too. Getting cream for my arthritis that's everywhere, and a back brace, just gotta make sure on my de appt to mention to the Dr to see if it comes in on my appointment date.

Long frustrating day so much pain, was up at 5:30 to run to drs office to find out they messed up the no longer do the script line which I was doing for years, but they never told me ran up there at 8 waited 45 mins to them to me that I need an appointment which my appointment was on March 3rd and my meds run out tomorrow, plus had to run my brother to a dr appointment that was for 10:30 which he wasn't booked for so had to bring him back just made it to the Dr's for my appointment, unbelievable, and after that had to go to store for my brother for diet soda tiny cans and goldfish cheddar snack bags, finally got home at 2 PM exhausted, the Dr office told me to slow down, I have to take care of myself too

Brother apologized for being demanding and mean to me started to cry. I felt bad. But I can't keep going to see him every day. So he gets it, I understand it's boring but don't take it out on me, so now we are good.

      Thanks for listening

      Take care

Linda, overheating is NEVER an issue w mine. Never feel the device at all, unless I physically feel it w my hand.

      Linda,

I think my battery gets hot because it sticks way out, so I hope they can fix it so I don't know what they can do, but besides that it only takes 20 to 15 mins depending on your program.

      Take care

This is so good to know.  Another patient in this forum lives in a neaerby city, and she gave me the name of a good neurosurgeon.  I'm going to see if I can get a referral to go see him.

So good to know Kilee!  I'm so glad this is working so well for you!  You can get your life back now!

Wow, so sorry. I hope you are able to get your meds straightened out - and quickly. I know you are trying to help your brother. Is there any way the state can provide a visiting nurse or something? And this is probably a dumb question. Is there anybody else that can help? Did you know that grocery stories deliver? My daughter gets hers delivered for $10.00. I'm working on my income taxes today. My laptop is not working again - can't get an internet connection, so I'm back at the desktop and it hurts to sit in a chair, so I am going to have to take frequent breaks.

      Take care. Rest today.
