Spinal stenosis back pain after op

Posted , 5 users are following.

Had my spinal stenosis op in december gone. The horrendous pain that had me writhing in agony has not returned .thank goodness i was near to topping myself..I had the bone scraped to allow the nerves to not be pinched causing excruciating symptoms.this has worked. Also i had titanium spacer inserted between vertebrae as spine was bulging to one side.

However now i can not stand or walk or do any kind of housework ect befor my lower back sometimes left or mostly right side goes into a terrible painful spasm.

This is only relieved by sitting or lying down.So my life is now devided into 5 minit bursts of movement and ten minits resting till pain stops.

Physio said this often happens aftet this op to varying degrees.is anyone else in same position and has any hints to cope.

Tia.

Had my stenosis cured in one day with an LLIF fusion (see picture).  One night in the hospital, no brace, no rehab.  Miracle op. However, within 8 months, I started to get a lot of lower back pain.  Neuro took a look.  Very rare...I had excessive bone growth around the L2/L3 fusion with the new bone extending down to L4.  All that new bone was impinging other nerves.  He went in again to clear everything out...spent 3 1/2 hours!!!  It's taken a few months to get past it but it is better.

However, the subconscious changes in the way I walked to avoid the pain has led to a locked SI joint and hip misalignment.  My chiropractor is working on that now.  Figure another few weeks before I'm totally back to normal.

So it's a muscular spasm type of thing that is happening?  Have they tried you on any of the typical muscle relaxants? Does it matter if you are doing a fast paced activity or motion versus a slower pace? This is just a very curious thing to me- is this generated by your nerves, or is it within the muscles themselves? I wonder if perhaps this might be a reaction to the titanium? I don't know I am just throwing out ideas as I am just as perplexed as you are, but this is interesting and I am sure your doctors are all scratching their heads too.

Yes I was suffering from same problem but as you are suffering from continued back pain after surgery, a comprehensive physical examination and appropriate diagnostic imaging techniques can often pinpoint the cause of pain.
