Spinal Stenosis Surgery (hemi laminectomy L2-5)

It's been 10 weeks since surgery (hemi laminectomy w bilateral decompression L2-5). Have Physical Therapy 2X/Week and do exercises and walking every day. Walking on treadmill is OK for 20-30 minutes, but when I stand (especially on hard surface) I get severe pain on right lower back, groin and leg after 5-10 min. I would expect to be much better by this point - anyone with experience here? Is this normal?

Ask your therapist about soft cushion soled shoes and need better arches in shoes. Sometimes when the back and hip are in alignment the feet ankles and knees will grow the balance of the body out of alignment.

Discuss this with your doctor and ask about hip OA with groin pain it could be hip OA.

I cannot stand in one place long without needing to sit down. I have no pain just feet legs begin to feel week. I had herniated disc repair but also ankling spondylosis and helped along with hip joint replacenpment in both hips.

take care wish you a great recovery !

I had a Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (LLIF) for my stenosis at L2/L3.  Woke up, all stenosis pain gone, ran down the hall, climbed stairs and more.  One overnight in the hospital, no rehab, no brace.  Like the op never happened.  A truly magical procedure from my neurosurgeon in Fort Worth.

Thank you very much - that sounds like it really worked and will look into that procedure. All the best and love Fort Worth too!

Search YouTube for "Globus LLIF"...cute animation.  Go in FROM THE SIDE, destroy the disk, insert the device, expand it like a car jack with an actual surgical Allen wrench, screw it solid, back fill with bone graft from the hip, close.  Easy peasy.  Incredible op technology!!!

Ok that is some X-ray. 🙈It seems like our bodies take a pounding thru life. We get put back together and hope it’s a good fit.

Picture 1: Pre-op - You can see all the nerve impingement and irritation before the LLIF.

      Sorry...wrong button...

Picture 1: Pre-op - You can see all the nerve impingement and irritation before the LLIF at L2/L3.  All the other hardware was from my L3 through S1 TLIF with the rails and screws.

Picture 2: Posterior view of LLIF device after insertion and expansion.

Picture 3: Post-op - Notice two things: 1. The elimination of all that stenosis inflammation in the green box compared to the original red circle; and 2. The posterior edge of the device is slightly larger than the anterior edge.  This maintains the proper curve of the vertebrae while the total height of the device opens up the vertebrae and relieves the pressure on the nerves causing the pain.

After the device is inserted, the neuro uses special Allen wrenches to open (expand) the device and has separate control of posterior and anterior edges to achieve a perfect fit.

This is the best kept spine secret on the planet!!!  Instant relief, no brace, no rehab.  A true miracle op...
