Spinal surgery

Anyone had full spinal fusion into pelvis...I have been told that I need a full rid top to bottom of my spine as first op gas failed due to last rod screws not fusing to bone...I have 4 rods in spine top 3 are fine. ..I'm concerned about having next op as it is another 12hrs + of surgery to remove rods and replace with full rod...I want to know how it affects general life...what can I expect my quality of life to be...I have to use crutches to walk round house or out to daughters car if she is taking me out...I have to use them....

Before my fusion, I had to use a walker. Now I can walk without it but I still have pain.  My L5-S1 fusion has failed twice. Are they saying that you will be able to walk without your crutches after this surgery? If so, that would be worth it. Gives you more independence - you don't want to eventually end up in a wheelchair which is where I was headed eventually.  To be honest, there's a good chance you will still have pain afterwards. But if you can walk again without crutches, I still think it would be worth it.  My surgery took 2 full days, so I know what you mean - good luck to you.

This is what I need to know but can't seem to get a straight answer..you get told that they wldnt do op if they didn't think it was worth while but no guarantee...possibilities are paralysis...loss of bladder and bowel control. ..loss o's sexual activity but that is not I'd concern to me at 67 and divorced...They have to remove the rods that are already in spine...add bone to pelvis. ..then put rod in but I can't find anyone who has had the full rod to see how it has affected the life....I'm just not sure....
