Spine correction surgery

Has anyone had experience in spinal correction surgery called osteotomy to correct for bent over posture? I am considering this after having a compression fracture and not being able to stand up straight or hold back up without the use if my hands on my thighs.

My mom has had several spinal fusions and hardware I don’t know the correct name for it (she has as too) and every time she is getting worse and worse I can only tell you her case but is your Injury from as?

I have a significant compression fracture at L4 from a injury but the rest of the curve is from the AS. The surgery will remove bone to shape the spine and then fuse it with rods and screws to the upper back from low back.

She has the rods and screws and after 3 surgeries she is bent forward at a 45 degree angle still. it seems it’s the same thing, from watching her long recovery to the outcome being the same or worse it’s frustrating for both of us, she’s thinking of doing another but a different doctor said she shouldn’t have had surgery did your rheumatologist suggest this or another doctor

This surgery was recommended by several spine surgeons to me. One says I need a 60 degree correction. I haven't talked about it with my rheumatologist yet. I see her in a few weeks. How far up the spine was the rods and screws for your mom? Does she have osteoporosis And Ankylosing Spondylitis?

How old is your mother, may I ask?

The surgeons told me a complication of having osteoporosis is that the screws could be one loose and back out, causing the surgery to fail. Could this be what is happening to your mother?

      I meant "become" loose.

Yes my moms hardware keeps coming out and sometimes the rods break the reason I say ask the rheum is because my mom wasn’t diagnosed correct at first like I was my rheum says surgery won’t help this condition and from what I have witnessed he is correct as she’s getting worse she 62 now had her first what she calls full spinal fusion at 52 I can inbox you her info I didn’t realize I couldn’t post it hers goes from top of back to bottom I’ll try to send pic

That sounds very painful. Did the surgery work out at first when she was younger? Does your mother have osteoporosis? I will have a surgical consult in a week and a half from a experienced surgeon of this type of operation.

Did the surgery straighten her spine at first? What can the doctors do about the rods breaking? Do they replace them?

Her rods and hardware have been replaced many times it seems to work for a few months after recovery then slowly goes back
