Spiral Fracture on the 5th Metatarsal

hi, have fractured my 5 th metatarsal also a spiral fracture. Do not have an appointment to see specialist for 2 weeks... have been told to keep it up and wear the boot if up but too uncomfortable too wear as swollen. feel stuck really , does any one have any advice please? wondering whether it should be in a cast or not feels strange that nothing is happening fir another 2 weeks. when can u go back to work etc.
