Has any Hippy had experience of the Spire hospital on Norwich please?  I am considering having my THR there but the cost is eyewatering.  Is it worth the money?  I understand some NHS patients have their op there also.  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Hiya, not had my op. yet but the surgeon has told me that he will likely do it if NHS or private; only difference would be private room and better food! And with such a short stay in hospital, it hardly seems worth the 10k of going private!

Difference is if you live in an area with a long wait for the op.

Take care and best of luck.

I can't believe how long everyone had to wait. I too had my hip and knee in spire hospital on nhs but from seeing consultant to surgery day was a week! I declined ad I was shocked and needed to get my head around it so quickly but they were fantastic. They gave me exercise sheet for bed ...raised toilet seat...grabber. ..special knee brace that I could fill with water and freeze as ice pack. ..they even arranged home care for me for 6 weeks after THR. It was spire murrayfield wirral. I had a choose and book from my gp I thought it was christmas haha. They even diagnosed my foraminal spinal stenosis and referred me to neurologist as it was a friend of his so all in all I wad treated with utmost respect and care that I am truly grateful for

      Dear Shirley,

Greetings from Exeter on a stunning sunny day -

Yes, I was lucky too - exactly a month from letter from physio to surgery. As I've written before, I've a sneaking suspicion some recommendations, like me from a very Senior Physio, count more than others! Asl lucky not a week earlier when hosptal was on a black 'we are full and bed blocking' alert!

Hello to you too mic from sunny wirral. Yes it definitely goes on priority but I originally went to see specialist about my knee that was bad and mentioned I had a bad hip too which I've had since I was 12 due to juvenile arthritis. I had metal pins in my hip when i was 12 to keep it in place then removed 2 years later. immediately it was x rayed and within half an hour I was being told I need a hip replacement due to severe wear on the joint and too many oesteophites causing pain everywhere. Had hip done 2 years ago in spire hospital and I'm lucky I have been registered with them since. Hehe I'm cheeky though as surgeon diagnosed me with foraminal spinal stenosis and I have been kept on the private sector but only because I was cheeky. You don't get unless ypu ask haha x

Hi I had my op in BMI Milton Keynes from choose and book. Initially did not realise it was private appointment but was the nearest appointment. Went ahead with the op waited about 12 weeks. Pluses - Own room and en suite , free TV good food choices. Same surgeon as would have had in NHS next door. Nurses caring. Minuses - sent home within 48 hours scared and in terrible pain fell down luckily on a chair when returned from first walk with physio. Had to buy all aids chair riser grabber toilet seat etc. Could not get hold of nurse to ring back when had pains in chest post op. So went to A & E kept me in for tests for blood clot. All ok but care was excellent and company in the ward. Food was also good. Not much appetite after op for a while. My advice ask Dr for choose and book and choose private if you want quicker op. Why should you pay. I am sure you contributed NI over the years. My opinion NHS was great as well but understand your pain.
