It must work for some people otherwise it wouldn't be offered as a treatment. Similarly any cancer risks must be considered justifiable for the benefits of using this med. In other words unless it was considered safe to use it wouldn't have been passed as a viable treatment.
If you are still worried why not ask your derm or your pharmacist?
