Split broken nails and skin cracking

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hello, my nails have been cracking and splitting and the skin peeling away and cutting constantly over the last 4 months. I haven’t had fake nails on ever before and never had nails like this in my life. I’ve always had healthy nails. I have been trying loads of castor oil and nail treatments but nothing is working. I'm 29, fit and healthy, not on any medication. The only change in the past 4 months has been the sudden loss of my father at his young age and stress and grief of it all. Would that cause my nails to be like this? imageimageimageimage

Hallo Kiera. So sorry to hear of your loss, especially as its your Father and you are so young. Yes grief can cause lots of physical problems with your body as well as the mental effects of grieving, depression and hopelessness. Its often underestimated what is happening to our bodies when we grieve. You have suffered a shock and your body as well as your mind will be coming to terms with it.

Chemicals are released into the body which can cause an imbalance in all sorts of ways, Your skin may get spotty, your gut and digestion may be upset and your immunity is lowered.

Im sure this is whats happening to you. you may even, without realising it , been picking or chewing at your nails, Try to eat a regular balanced diet, and look after your hands and nails with lots of pampering and hand creams. Even slather your hands in hand cream at night and wear cotton gloves.

Im sure this will get better in time. Try to look after yourself: your Father would like that.
