Split doses

I know there is a thread for this already but I can't seem to get to it. This from my sister diagnosed a little over 2 years ago and having the common dose yo yo ing problems that never quite controlled her symptoms. She had remarked that the dose, taken all in the morning never seemed to last the day and wondered about dose splitting so I passed on the experiences posted on the subject on here.

"Well, that was an encouraging read. I went ahead on Friday night with a half dose which meant that I had extra that day, then only half next morning and the other half at bedtime - with my shredded wheat so not on an empty stomach. Felt a different person on Saturday and today so shall continue. When I'm settled on that I can start thinking about reducing again. Thank you for the information. It is reassuring to know others have tried it with good effect. Talk Friday with an update. "

Three more cheers for this forum and all who share.

Sorry, the stars would not do as they were told but I think it's clear which is her bit and which mine.

      Good to hear.

I began splitting on Dec 20, 2019 and I have felt like I got my life back.

Before that every morning was terrible in terms of stiffness and pain so much so that I was taking Tylenol 3's.

My doctor never mentioned this to me but I sure wish she did.

When I told her about my experience all she could say was they don't tell patients as it can cause sleep issues.

I thankfully am not bothered by that at all.

Good luck with the reducing, Make sure you do it very slowly- I am reducing by .5 mg at a time using the DSNS method.

Received promised update form my sister. The split dose is still working for her but she has not chanced reducing as yet so 6mgs. morning and again evening. Not where she hoped to be at this stage but is comfortable. This is the first time she has tried split dose.

I split my dose for a while when I was having problems with pmr symptoms (earache and skeletal pain) at night.

It definitely helped, but I must note that during that time I was under-medicated (still holding on to the idea that I could reduce faster than I really could).

Time has taught me a lesson there, that a lot of needless suffering and loss of energy/motivation could have been avoided if I had maintained a sufficient dosage level needed to be symptom-free.

So likely I would not have needed to split my dose if I had been taking the appropriate dosage in the first place.

Split dosing, after breakfast and evening dinner, worked fine for me from 24 mg down to 7 mg pred.

I began the split dose on December 20, 2019 and have been feeling great ever since. I am reducing slowly by .5 mg and will be at 10mg by next week DSNS method.

Wish I had known this a lot sooner.

It can apparently cause sleep issues so I take Melatonin some nights.

      Good luck.

I began the split dose on 16 Nov 2017 and have been feeling great ever since. Currently at 2.3 mg pred, I am reducing by 0.5 mg every 3 weeks, weighing the tablets.

I learned of split dosing after two weeks of pred. Pred after dinner has not affected my sleep.

Incidentally, I was stuck for a whole year at 7 mg.

I heard from my sister yesterday that she has reduced by 0.5 this week and so far so good. She'll be encouraged by your post so thank you for sharing.
