Split in retina

so I've had these visual disturbances for as long as I can remember and only on Monday did I have a scan done for the back of my eyes.

They have found a split on my retina which explains the visual disturbances I've been having and have been referred to hospital for more tests.

I am pretty anxious about going and wonder if anyone else has had this and how serious is it? I have a feeling this could have been here since birth.

Just wondering if anybody could put me at ease who knows what might happen at the eye clinic and have had anything like this before. My optician said the possible treatment could be an injection or laser treatment but I've read there is no fix for a split retina.
