spotting

After being advised by my GP a few months ago to stop my Evorel conti (I was using half a patch) my symptoms returned with full force. So I put back the full patch 50micrograms. I have been experiencing spotting and period like pains, breast tenderness and slight headaches. I am attributing this to upping my dose of Evorel. I was acrually doing fine on my half a patch. I have started to trim down the 50 patch now and see if that helps. Anyone got any advice or had similar experiences? feeling quite low at the moment.

Pat, I feel your pain. Why in the world do GPs keep trying to take us off hormones. I've never had the patch - I had a complete hysterectomy in 1998 (age 47), while living in Okla. moved to Texas, got a new GP, he said "time to get off hormones" (age 52) I did as he said, had terrible results (bladder infections), started taking my 2 mg Estradiol again, too strong by that time, medicated myself with 1-1/2 mg, did fine for 9 years, again he said "off the hormones" got me down to .05 mg and I went into full blown anxiety/panick attacks, fatique, depression and the list went on. FINALLY,  got a new GP and he put me BACK on the 2 mg Estradiol. Today I'm NORMAL again and feel great, but it has taken 8 full months to get here. My new GP ran blood work on me to see where my estrogen level was before he did anything. Of course it was very low. Talk to your doctor, tell him what your going through, hopefully he can run blood work on you. I'll never go off hormones again and what may be, will be.

Drs seem to work on the premise that one size fits all, and that we all should be over menopause by 50 or at least, 55.  As you and I know, this is not true.  We are all built differently and some of us need oestrogen more than others.  Either nothing else is making it for us, or we don't store it like some do, or we just need more than others.

If we are suffering from lack of oestrogen, then we need it.  If we are NOT suffering from lack of oestrogen, then we do not need it.  While we are suffering, damage is happening to our health.  Without it we will have bad health, not vice versa.  As long as we use the right oestrogen, e.g. bioidentical, that is replicated to be the very same as our own oestrogen, not what is good for a mare.

So good on you ladies - keep up the fight.  Maybe one day we will finally educate these drs to do the right thing by us.

Thank you Judy and Sheryl for your replies. The side effects are so unpleasant. I just want to get back to where I felt fine.. I'm not very happy with my GP for upsetting my life . I will certainly let my feelings be known when I see him next week!
