Spouse with copd 40% lung function

Went to the Dr yesterday and was told my husband is at 40% lung function. they are going to schedule him for a broncoscopy to see if there is some kid of bug in his lungs that is not getting treated correctly since he for the last few weeks has had to to up to 40mg of prednisone for three days and back down to 20mg for two and then to his base of 10mg and this was not helping his breating. he is to be on 20mg for 10 days now before going back down to the 10mg. how bad is this at 40%? he seems to have more bad days with his breathing than good!

    hi sharon has your husband had the spirometry test has this gives a better reading on lung function. i went into hospital with breathing problems and its due to this test where i found i had stage 3 copd because my lung function is at 37%
