Sprained Ankle

I sprained my ankle 5 weeks ago. I was jumping on to a very low bed and then off the other side and I came down and rolled my ankle pretty bad. I don't remember pain right away just a feeling of landing on it very wrong and I knew it was pretty bad. My ankle instantly looked like like a baseball then the pain set in and I couldn't walk on it. I went to emerg and they did an xray but said no fracture just a severe sprain. At day 8 I had another xray because the pain was getting worse. Again no fracture. I have been doing physio 2x a week and seeing my dr every 2 weeks. At about 3 weeks I could walk on it but had pain in behind my ankle bone when foot came off the ground and I have had a constant burning at the back side of my ankle bone. Last week dr said my ankle should be getting better so he referred me to a specialist and wants a bone scan done. Both my dr and physio are not sure what is going on.

I am 5 weeks now and walking on the ankle doesn't hurt but does after, I still have a burning feeling in my ankle bone, my ankle bone is very tender to touch and if I rotate my ankle certain positions are very painful (feels like something is being ripped). About a week ago my foot started tingling (not numb and not as bad as pins and needles) now it does it almost all of the time. I'm just frustrated because different areas of my foot and ankle ache my ankle bone burns, and is still swollen and I have no idea what the actual damage done was. I think they are wondering avulsion fracture? I don't think complete tear of anything because I never had any feeling of ankle giving out. Anybody have any similar symptoms and any idea of damage that I may have done?? I am waiting for specialist appointment.

You need a MRI. Get ATFL & CFL checked.

Thank you I will talk to my dr about the MRI when I see him on Tuesday.  Does everything show on the MRI?

Do you mean just reg boots?  I can't wear anything tight on my ankle because the pressure on my ankle bone hurts.  I have a brace physio had me wearing and it helped when my foot was very swollen but since the swelling has gone down even that hurts my ankle bone sad.   All the swelling has gone down on my foot except on my outer ankle bone, it's twice the size of the other one.
