Spreading of tremors, with muscle spasm and muscle jerking

Hi,

I'm currently 20 years old and I've been experiencing weird symptoms. I had been diagnosed with writers cramp and action tremor which is very obvious in my right hand. I was very wary of it being MS or arthritis but I've done all the necessary test (MRI of the brain and spine and blood works) which confirms those were not the case. The symptoms I have been experiencing includes of sharp pains on my arms and thighs, muscle spasm in several areas of my body ( upper arms, ankle and thigh), limb jerking in ankle and shoulder, chest pains as well as worsening action tremors. I'm most worried of the tremors spreading to other parts of my body as since the past 2 months, I felt the tremor spreading from my right hand to my face (when I smile), my eyes, and even occasionally on my left arm. Is there anyone who's experiencing the same thing? Or can anyone give me some advice on this?

You have been given a tranche of test and the results checked by Specialists and your GP., you need to trust these results and those who have taken them.

Your fear of MS is irrational it would seem, I have had writers cramp and it can be very painful. If this is the problem rest your fingers, wrist etc.

Sometimes if we sit crunched up our posture can be effected, the same applies with walking. If the bed is over twelve years old or fails to give support that can also cause problems when you awake.

Research posture and see if that works, your GP may arrange an appointment with a Rhumi

You could try swimming, that may help and tone up your muscles, exersise may also help. If your problem does not clear talk to your GP

      Hey Bob,

I do trust the results and what I've been told by my doctors. I meant that I previously suspected it to be MS or arthritis but my test results confirmed and ruled out these two conditions but I'm more confused as to why I'm getting all these symptoms. Sorry! Should've proof read what I've wrote.

As to Writers Cramp, I've been given some anti-parkinson's medication and beta-blockers for my hand tremor. Unfortunately, I don't seem to feel any effects from it although i've been taking it for 3 months now.

I'm also getting physio right now for back pain which explains tremors in my thighs due to some impingement of nerves. So hopefully everything does go when my back pain goes

I'll definitely try fitting swimming into my schedule but I think I'm quite a fairly active individual already.

Thanks for replying to my discussion btw smile

You mentioned taking anti-Parkinson’s medication, which raises Dopamine levels.

I suggest you research an online article titled, “Dopamine Functions,” by Dr. Ananya Mandal. It helped me understand why I have a twitching and jerking disorder even though it seems to be a mystery to doctors who have seen me.

Hi, I would suggest you ask to be seen by a neurologist who specialises in movement disorders. I suspect Dystonia, good luck x

      Hi Tezes,

Thanks. I will. I'll leave it to the doctor to explain it too because the information about it on the internet seems a little too serious haha

Have you been tested for Epstein Barr? It is a viral infection further along the mono spectrum. I had sharp pains, unpredictably migrating around my entire body for several months. Id recommend finding a naturopath to look into this via blood work vs. only a seeing a general practitioner. Establishing a baseline is a good thing to do anyway, so you can set a baseline your health and monitor stats as you age.

Alexis - writers cramp (Unless very temporary) is a type of dystonia called focal dystonia, some types and you can develop more than 1 (there are many affecting different parts of the body) of dystonia are treated with anti Parkinson drugs.

It is well known that GP's and some general Neurologist do not understand dystonia which is why I advised you to ask to be referred to a neuro who specialises in movement disorders. IT took 18 months for me to be diagnosed having first seen by my GP, then a general neuro and finally a specialist neuro. You have had most of the medical tests you need so a specialist will be able to diagnose you with a physical exam within one  appointment. Just to add that the bloods & MRI brain scans etc are used to rule out other conditions, in dystonia they are expected to come back with normal results. Good luck  text...

      Hey Tezes,

Oh that would explain what I've been experiencing and why all my tests has came back with normal results... I will get my GP to refer me to a specialist soon and keep you posted smile

In the meantime, how has yours been since being diagnosed? Were you able to have it all cured?

Hi, I'm good thanks I've learned how to deal with it, there is no 'cure' for dystonia but lots of drug choices and treatments to minimise /control symptoms. It's very different for everyone so the treatment can also be tailor made. You learn to live with it, there are worse things in life, all the best getting a diagnosis, you will feel a whole lot better when you know exactly what you're dealing with x
