SSRI Antidepressants

I have been suffering from depression for years and I know what would help. I am tired of being prescribed the SSRI type of antidepressants that I have to wait a month to find out if they will work. I have tried so many of them and it is clear to me that none of those type will work. I have been on Valium or Soma for back pain and they make me feel so much better. I actually get an appetite with them and I know they will work. Are there any doctors out there that will prescribe those types of antidepressants. Anyone out there who are on the benzo's or something different? If so how are you doing on them? One of my depression symptoms is fear like maybe fear for my future. I am 57 years old and I feel like my life is over with and I'm just waiting to dye. Have other issues with the law such as DWI. This does not help my fears situation.

Most responsible doctors will not prescribe the `benzos' for anything. They are ferociously addictive. I worked as a psych nurse in a large public mental hospital 40 years ago. We only prescribed them for people who were about to go into convulsions because of `delirium tremens' from acute alcoholic poisoning. This was rare. They are also used to stop ongoing seizures related to shock treatment, and other seizure disorders. Some large general practices here in Melbourne Australia won't prescribe them at all. I wrote a couple of lengthy posts about SSRI anti-depressants and alternative ways of dealing with depression in the last few days, on another site here. You might want to look at those.

Hi deee, Thanks for your reply. I would like to read your posts if you can tell me where to find it. I kind of expected a reply like yours. I know that the benzo's are addictive but was taking them for a long time until the DEA started cracking down on doctors and pain meds. But as I said before, I know what works for me and at this point I am at wits end dealing with depression and would rather the risk than keep on going like I am and knowing that the ssri's will not work. I've tried practically every one of them. The last one I tried was Paxil. The doctor started me out at 30 mgs. Had to wait a month then increased the dosage to 60 mgs. Waited a month and still no reaction to the med. She finally increased the dosage to 90 mgs. After 5 days I felt like a Zombie is the best way to describe it. It made everything worse. I was more depressed, didn't want to talk to anyone and just "zone out" It was the most horrible feeling I've ever felt in my life. I instantly quit them with no withdrawal problem and felt much better the next day after I quit them. So for what it's worth I still would like to read your post if you can tell me where I can find it. Thank you.

I'm glad you got away without the withdrawals, but you weren't on long so that's good. I know a good story about Paxil, but don't, REPEAT DON'T do what this guy did. An American footballer got depressed and the makers of Paxil asked him to spread the good word about. He travelled around for a bit then, at a publicity function announced, loud and clear, `you know this stuff (the Paxil) is nowhere near as good as `weed' (marihuana)Needless to say that was the end of THAT career path.

My comments were on the site with `jaguar' and `Racherz'. I think you'd have to look up `discussion forums' and/or `depression'. Good Luck. As I said to Racherz, if you're going to get depressed, now's a good time. There is a lot of good alternative stuff around. Mind you no time is a `good' time for depression, but you know what I mean.
