SSRI'S or Beta Blockers?

Hi, I may have fibromyalgia and am being referred to a neurologist by my consultant. I am taking cytalopram 10 mg for anxiety but it is not very effective. My consultant advised me to see my GP with a possibility of changing from SSRI'S to Beta Blockers. I'd appreciate any feed back from your experiences. The one thing that I cannot cope with is the overwhelming feeling of tiredness, are Beta Blockers better for this symptom, in your experience? Thanks.

Hi juliannah, Iv'e been through the meds trials with this issue, i am now on propranolol 10mg 4 times a day for anxiety which is a beta blocker and it works really well for me. i am also on 20mg amitriptyline which is in the tricyclic group of antidepressant but was given to me for pain from fibromyalgia.. it might be worth trying the propranolol for the anxiety though as i find it works so much better than the ssri's ever did..

      good luck..xx

Hi Gill, thanks for replying, propranolol was the beta blocker I had in mind to mention to my GP. Much appreciated.

      Best wishes.
