SSRIs stop working?

I've been on Zoloft for 9 years for panic and anxiety. I rarely needed a Klonopin. About 6 weeks ago I had a panic attack. Normally, I can brush them off, but the vicious circle started. I became somewhat agoraphobic, constant jitteriness and early morning waking. Dr increased dosage to 75 mg. I had periods of feeling okay some days with feeling quite jittery and trembling the next. About 2 weeks in I had the whole skin crawling, burning thing that went away in 2 days. After starting to see a therapist and no improvement at week 4, we decided to go up to 100mg. Given that I am sensitive, fearful of side effects, I went to 87.5 for four days. I started to not being able to fall asleep (only had slight early morning waking after 6-7 hours). That evening I started having extreme nervousness, anxiety, fearfulness and couldn't sit still. I took .25 Klonopin and fell asleep for about 4 hours and woke with the same feelings. Dr. decided I need to go back to 75mg. It's week 5 (day 7 back down from 87.5) and still feeling anxious. I have added .25 Klonopin every night now and it is helping somewhat. My question is...Could it take this long to feel the effects of the 25mg increase? Why am I so sensitive to increases? Should I switch or add on BuSpar? I feel like there is something wrong with me. I don't recall any negative side effects of imipramine except tremendous weight gain so I switched to Zoloft again with no side effects. I weaned off to have a baby and the anxiety came back about 3 months later. They put me on Paxi and I felt doped up so I stopped after two weeks, Effexor for four days again made me extremely anxious. It took almost 12 weeks between the start stop of these meds and reintroducing Zoloft 50mg to feel normal again. During all of this, I had the same horrific side effects. Mostly the anxiety / lack of sleep, etc. Thoughts??? Thanks bunches

Hi lauf, I feel what you are in as I have started sertraline since November 2015

With 50mg for 8 weeks then my doc upped it to 100mg I've been 3 weeks in the new dose I was feeling good through them , no panic no fear no thoughts only slight of them once through the day but now and after 3 weeks I'm all back to nervous and fear with low apetite specially in the mornings and also all day . Some people on this site say that it could last up to 6 weeks for the new dose to settle . I'm really frustrated need to be normal again sad

It's so awful. I am so ready for relief and need a doctor I can relate with and not one who will just write me off with a side look when I tell him that I am having these side effects. His theory is just to put me on a mood stablilizer. I am not bipolar.

I never had any antidepressant before but why I have these flashes of anixity and panic and thoughts ?

Is this the new dose and I will feel better ? I have 4 kids and I need to be happy and normal as I used to be before what made me take this med .

Sorry for not giving you any answer but me too I need a relief and I need my normal life back .

Not well. sad I was really hoping to see some improvements, but I'm just a jittery mess. I hate relying on Klonopin. I'm trying to get in w a new dr, but it won't be until Feb 9th. I wasn't depressed at all, now the "what if's" are making me kind of hopeless and scared.

I just realized that I haven't responded to the above question. I'm sorry. I've had panic attacks since college. Zoloft stopped them. I weaned off to have my daughter and about 3 months after I started not being able to sleep. That transgressed into anxiety again. I tried Paxil for two weeks and it made me dopey, Effexor made me agitated after 4 days during all of this and my hormones, I struggled a lot w the discontinuing / start up of Zoloft again. It took about 12 weeks to feel me again. 😭 Why did you and your dr decide to go on RX?

I guess I'm stuck with this anixity and I feel it's never going to go away .

I started Zoloft after a health anixity issue which turned to be ok after but I'm stuck with anixity and depression I was unable to sit still or concentrate and scared with heart beats fast and tears with no reason also not motivated at all lost interest in normal

activities with insomnia no apetite .

My doc who I really trust put me on Zoloft 50 then upped to 100 but I was feeling good but 5 days now I'm not feeling good . I don't know if the med still needs time or what ?

5 days at 100 mg.... You are still building up. You are feeling the side effects. Did he give you Klonopin to help you get over the hump? If not ask for a lowwww dose .5 and break it in half. Do not take more than what he suggests! And, once you are level on the Zoloft, wean down slowly on the Klonopin. (If taken for less than a month, u won't have an issue at a low dosage). And... You might find you don't always need it. Which is even better!!! If you feel it's too bad, ask if you can do 75 mg for a while.

I know it seems bleak right now. Trust me, you are not stuck!!! Call your Dr. In the meantime, write your side effects, feelings, etc in a journal. It doesn't have to make sense. Google meditation videos and do them whenever you can. When you are down and don't feel like doing anything, push yourself to do it anyway! It helps. Yoga videos, too!!

Got ya. I'm on my cell so it's hard to scroll up while typing. It's still early though. 4-6 weeks is average to level out. Sometimes, up to 8 weeks. Maybe wait one more week and then ask if you can try 75? But, call Dr tomorrow and tell him what's going on. Bullet point the timeline of when you felt good/bad so you can give him accurate info.
