St John's Wort

Hi,
I have been taking St John's Wort for about three months to help me cope with depression as I don't want to take antidepressants. I used to take Iburprofen to help with pain relief and it worked very well. The last few weeks my pains have been a lot worse and the Iburprofen isn't doing anything. I have also tried co codamol, and though it relaxed me, it did nothing for the pain.
Has anyone else taken St John's Wort, and do you think it could be that inhibiting the pain killers?

Hi Kaz,
I don't think there is any use not taking the St Johns Wort for a few of days as it stays in your system for a couple of weeks, but it's a good idea to talk to a pharmacist...I will do that thank you 😊
How have you been? I hope not too bad.

I'm off to see the doctor once she's back from her vacation because it's all got worse in the last few weeks 😕
But I still hope that one day things will get better 😊

I take Sam E instead of St. John's wort. It helps with joint pain as well as mood. It has been helping me. As with any prescription you have to read the interactions. I also take magnesium calcium and zinc for pain but when when on previous meds had to spread it out.

SAMe is also known as soon adenosyimethionine. It works by increasing cartilage thickness but can take a while to feel those benefits. However, it also increases serotonin so shouldn't be taken with antidepressants. Some people experience side effects. I have not! Huge relief cause I did not want to take Cymbalta. I am a normal person when I take it. If I forget it I can be a real B.
Suggest you start at a small doses and progress as needed. Hope this helps.
