Stage 2 Meniere's?

Hi all ,

So I've been with this awful condition for 3yrs now. Been lucky, had a year without vertigo, nausea and vomiting. Constant low level tinnitus though and mild hearing loss. Had a yearly revision just after Christmas and my hearing apparently better than previous year! Then two days later...nausea and fullness plus noticeable hearing loss and tinnitus jumped up a huge level. When I went through a series of really bad attacks between September and December 2018 I went to a private specialist ENT and he prescribed corticoids for a short period plus added diuretic to my serc intake and my episodes stopped until now. I repeated short term of corticoids again, helped with the fullness but the louder than ever tinnitus persists and for last two days mild dizziness and bad hearing loss in left ear. I'm under a bit of personal stress at the moment, could that be a factor? Is this likely to be permanent or is there anything I can do to help reduce it? I don't generally sleep well and this isn't helping much! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! This is a cry for help...

hi Peter sorry to hear you are having such an awful time. I had a break of about 3 years with no symptoms then had something stressful happen and it came back so yes I do think it can be stress related. I still have occasional attacks but compared to how some people suffer I have to think myself lucky. I hope things improve for you soon.

    Hi,

i was diagnosed four years ago. The sickness & dizziness were bad at first. i was prescribed 8x3 mg of Betahistine to start with but my Ent guy changed that to 16x3mg daily. I also take 10mg of Amitriptyline at night before bed to settle the pins & needles feeiings in my head at nightime. The change for me was when I had three steroid injections over a month into my eardrum it helped a lot. Do avoid stress though even little things and eat & drink regularly. I do take Amlodopine for HBP now, the GPs idea not mine.

Hi Peter, sorry to hear of your problem. I've vestibular issues too. I've tinnitus, hearing loss in left ear & dizziness for 23 years. When the dizziness got worse, I couldn't stand up & walk, had to sit still till it went off. Any head movement causes a very dull pain in head. And I would vomit like crazy. I've seen many medical specialists over the years. It seems I have many triggers for my attacks - not drinking enough water, too hungry, feeling cold in cold weather & not having a good sleep. I've a sleeping problem. I tend to get up 3 to 4 times to pee because of my enlarged prostate for which I'm also undergoing treatment. That getting up 3 or 4 times really disrupted my sleep very badly. I can't take sleeping pills because they give me a very bad hangover. Other medicines given were not helping me much till I went to see another neuro-otologist who prescribed Clonotril 0.5mg - one tablet per day. This inexpensive new medicine really gives me a good night sleep. No more waking up in the night to visit the toilet. And no hangover too. Do see your doctor & ask if you can take this medicine to help you to sleep. I hope you will get better soon.

Much appreciated. Going to see family doc on Friday. It's funny you mention the cold, my ENT told me attacks seem to increase in winter for some reason. Has anything helped with your tinnitus? Any recommendations?

My tinnitus is still the same. Noisy as before. I'm actually quite used to it. Doesn't really bother me at all. It's the dizziness that I find really annoying. Btw exercises seem to help me too. First get good sleep & take a nap in the afternoon if you are tired. Then go for a 30 min walk everyday, either in the morning or in the evening. Don't forget to drink enough water. Pray you will get better soon.
