I had the Lapidus surgery, which is 1 MTP, correction it took about 6 months for it to heal,

I had to look up what a stamms procedure was. The internet said it was a more drawn out recovery period than a lapidus procedure (which I had on my left foot a month ago), which has been plenty long enough for me!

You didn't say what foot, assuming right. I'm driving fine and have been since week 2 but again, mine is the left. I'm back to work but I have a sit down job.

I wish you luck. I wonder if you should ask about procedures with shorter recovery periods. I'm no doctor but 6 months (did you mean weeks? ) seems like a long time.

Hi Joanne. Unfortunately 6 months! All the Info I got online was the same as you - longer recover than  the laP -  Seems that a bone graph is involved. It's my left foot so surgeon said I could drive an automatic for short periods after 8 weeks so need to get myself an automatic car. Will be 4 nights in hospital and 6 hour surgery - sounds like an awful ordeal. Will chat to him again before the surgery. Not looking forward to it!

Oh my gosh, sio86225! That does sound a big ordeal... I'm so sorry, but I wish you much luck and a quicker recovery than what they say. Buying a car to accommodate a foot.. kinda crazy huh? ☺ But I don't blame you, I would want to drive as well.

You didn't mention your age or line of work, but I hope everyone is accommodating.

      Keep us posted.

I know! Just bought a cheap automatic. Home alone with two kids so at least, come Septemner, I will be able to bring them to their activities etc and do some Christmas shopping! Would go mad not being able to get out of the house myself for 6months. .

You'd last 6 months before going mad.?

I had cabin fever about 2 weeks in. ☺

You live in the UK? A lot on this site do. I live in the States--Texas.

2 days post op now. Had all 5 toes fused as well as bunion removal so pins out of smaller 4 toes and plate in big toe. Have boot on. Very little pain - just on paracetamol. Still in hospital but mobilising well.
