hy all i had my staples removed this morning, i wouldnt say it was ok becos i did t think it was, dont get me wrong the nurse was so lovely and patient and stopped to give me a break, i had 42 of them in and some were embedded a little and by jeeeez they stung , i thought as she got to my kneecap where my pain is still bad it would hurt but no, it was the last 10 upwards to the top area of my thigh i was quite upset, ive had a very tearful day, one of sheer relief to have them removed , then i think fear took over becos i feel like my leg has really stiffened up more and im scared it will burst oepen, the nurse eas quite happy with my peg i dont have any surtures or dressing on it... but am now in bed so tearful it will come undone ... ive taken my painkillers and am sittin here weeping...
so many mixed emotions from this sirgery and from today. ..

When I had my staples removed I too worried knee would open BUT that never of course happened plus was told knee was sutured underneath too. This stitches would dissolve.
You will be alright if you get too nervous call your doc office and have them answer your questions. I called a few times with my concerns.
Continue on its a long journey but it will work out in the end at least that's what ppl say! 😬

Not sure how long it's been since your surgery, but the first month is the worst. I had knee revision surgery 8/28 and due to abnormal swelling Doctor did not remove staples for 3 weeks. Therapist suggested silicone strips and also used vitamin e capsule (poke a hole and massage just outside the scar gently pushing scar together). It helped. Also keep doing the therapy and exercises a few times a day and icing leg. Also continue to elevate leg. Time heals. Also weaned myself off pain meds and used only for therapy. The weepiness seemed to be from lack of sleep and pain meds. I was waking up every 2-3 hours. Once I could sleep 5 hours or more much better. Was much better after 8 weeks and returned to work 10/25. Hang in there!

You close your eyes, bite the bullet and get the staples out. Done. Over. In the past. Nothing is going to come apart. Take the rest of the day/night and just relax.
Tomorrow morning, you get out of bed with your "game face" on and start kicking some serious ROM a$$!!! You will conquer this...period. The implant is in there...you have no choice...

I TRY to be strong and TRY to act like something like staple removal is no big deal. I was doing quite well. I had survived Knee #1 staple removal several months earlier, so I was prepared for #2 (or so I THOUGHT!!!) Apparently my second knee had healed faster than my first, so the staples HAD BECOME EMBEDDED pretty deep.😮 I made it through the first ten by looking away and breathing deeply. The second ten hurt even more than the first ten. I soldiered on. Just nine more to go! The nurse finished. The next thing I knew I was hearing my name from a far away place. I HAD FAINTED!!!
Well, my nurse SAID it looked like a SEIZURE. She called 9-1-1 !!! In a very short time THREE RESCUE GUYS were at my house followed by FIVE of my neighbors!!! (SO EMBARRASSING!!!😱😰😨
I felt fine, just SORE from all those staples being pulled out. I guess sometimes you can TRY all you want to be strong, but your BODY will say, " Enough of this! I'm checking out!"
I convinced the Rescue Guys I was fine, and they left. My nurse STILL wasn't convinced, but since there were now FIVE of my neighbors there to "watch" me, she was able to leave for her next patient.
My neighbors and I had a nice time. I made tea, we ate cookies, and they caught me up with all the neighborhood news. They stayed until my husband got home from teaching his class.
I learned a lot that day about how strong I WASN'T. I also learned that a lot of people who WERE strong and helpful and caring were there for me. Staple removal SUCKED, but the after-party was AWESOME!💃👯???😁😊🍪???

When I had mine removed the top ones were fine and the ones near the near cap. It was a few below the knee cap that were putting up a fight. I nearly bit a hole in my top. The nurse said I could swear if I wanted so it sounded like I had tourettes from that point on. The wound looked great it just became a bit lumpy at the top which caused the scar to become wider but it never burst open. So don't worry about that happening because it won't. Carry on with your exercises and massage around the wound when it's completely healed get the scar massaged. I used bio oil and my scar looks great x

Reading some of these messages I must have been very lucky having my staples removed Some were embedded and l was terrified it would be really painful The nurse was lovely she had some special clips like scissors that just pulled a little. It didn't hurt at all. She started removing from the top then the bottom returning to the knee after l had a breather. Naturally l was scared stiff my wound was going to come undone it didn't I trusted the nurse and her advice totally. My knee felt so much better after the chips were removed and l felt like l had moved on another step. I think sometimes your nerves can take you over and without you realising it turns you into a weeping soggy mess I've don't it myself I'm sending you the biggest hug and hopefully your feel more cheerful tomorrow A new Day x

Yeah your clips are out!! They do use dissolvable stitches for your quad muscle as this has to be cut during the op. My wound looked a bit lumpy at the top but now is nice and smooth. The shooting pains are probably due to the sciatic nerve. My physio told me to 'floss' it by pulling my foot backwards and forwards as fast as I can, well it worked for me. I started getting stir crazy by not being able to get out. I'm 48 and have a busy job so just to sit and take it easy hasn't been plain sailing. Once the consultant said I could drive it made a big difference. I went to a group physio session yesterday and met up with people who have had the same op. It was like circuit training with different exercise stations. Does your local hospital provide a service like that? It gets you out the house. Don't worry about needing two sticks use them as long as you need to it's not a race. Well at least you can come on here and chat to us you're never on your own x

I had my staples out today after partial knee replacement 2 wks ago. The removal itself was uncomfortable. More so as she moved up my knee cap. Burning was the most intense feeling, possibly from alcohol the nurse used to clean the site. Afterwards, the pain is much more than it's been in days. I thought it would be less. I too have taken my pain meds and am weepy since getting home from surgeons office. Go figure

The first 30 days are the worst for pain. Stay on your meds AS SCHEDULED. You need to keep the levels of the drugs in your bloodstream at a constant level. Things get better in time. I hope this helps with the "weepy" thingie...
