Hi I'm on day 18 of 37.5 mg of Effexor XR and am having increased anxiety. Is this normal and does it go away. I'm taking this for anxiety so this isn't helping.

Hiya, Natalie, it's such a long time since I started Venlafaxine that I can't remember how I felt at the start. but it's a drug I Personally wouldn't recommend I have had nothing but problems with it.. So it's up to you if you wish to continue.. Coming off it Is a Nightmare.. You've not been on it very long so back to Doctor to decide if you want to continue with it.. The other problem is that supplies run out for some reason that's never explained by the drug companies or anyone else.. you don't even know about it until you go to pickup your prescription!! Ridiculous.. best of luck in whatever you decide..

Thanks Irene, yes I've been reading about the horror stories about coming off. I'm actually only taking part of the 37.5 mg capsule, 6 mg to be exact. I'm just extremely sensitive to meds and would never take more than 37.5 mg of this particular med. I've read of several people who are doing well on micro doses.

your welcome, one of the things i found that helps me feel better is just coming here and remembering im not alone, everytime i get anxious over a feeling im having since my anxiety is mostly health related i come here and can find others who panic over similar symptoms it makes me realize that theres nothing really wrong and itll pass then i feel better. having a group of people who know exactly what its like is better for me to talk to then drs who never actually felt it before.

people will give different reviews on this drug, personally it saved my life. I was a complete mess. it does have some nasty side effects when starting, I had many of them. increased anxiety at the beginning is a common on, I had this too. it all subsides though. the only side effect I have now is the vivid dreams and I've been on venlafaxine for almost 2 years. hope this helps. take care. leanne x
