Hello, im hoping for some advice. After being in my job for a year I started having pannic attacks at meetings, so it was decided (by all) that I hand my notice in. I even had to end my relationship because I all of a sudden couldnt stand him touching me. I think I may have had a mini breakdown. Anyway, I finally went to see my doctor who has put me on 50mg sertraline a day. Its making me feel out of control, like every muscle is so tense it almost hurts. When Ever anyone talks to me I go so tense I can feel my whole body shaking. I have read it takes a while to see a change but my jaw hurts, and I just cant seem to calm down with the muscles tensing up. Has this happened to anyone else? Im thinking of coming off them. Thanks for any advice xx

Hello Michelle, all of the symptoms you speak of are normal at the beginning with Sertraline. I too had a panic attack in a meeting at work for the first time ever. Luckily I have a very understanding boss. I was suffering with severe anxiety and the doc put me on sertraline 6 weeks ago. The first 3 - 4 weeks can be very hard. I was off sick for 2.5 weeks, I'm never ever sick off work. I suffered with severe dizziness, panic attacks, nausea, Palpitations, shortness of breath, couldn't eat and lost a stone in weight. These symptoms soon start to suside, but you do have to persevere at the beginning. You usually reach an even keel at about 4 weeks and start to feel normal again at about 6-8 weeks. It's hard but you need to try and stay positive and see every day as a step nearer to recovery, keep yourself busy too as this helps to take your mind off things. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Tracie that was some very good advice you gave Michelle. Keeping positiveband yes going through those initial weeks is hard, but by telling her to endure is way to give her and a lot of more people hope. Thanks for being so positive!

Thanks very much Shirkey, I only know because of going through it myself, I even tried to get out and do some running even when I felt dizzy as.it made me feel better and also helps you sleep. Doing some exercise that elevates the heart rate slightly for half an hour helps to make your sleep better in the early days and also releases those good feel endorphins. I found a lot of negative comments on the forum when I started and almost felt in despair but this was from people who it either didn't work for or who gave it up too early due to the side effects. I was adamant when I was better that I would help people with positive comments so that means a lot thank you

Brilliant that you stick with it. Me too. I'm three months in and feel like my old self but better version. My daughter on this drug three years and has got her through uni. It's easy to blame meds but why you were put on it to start isn't going to miraculously go away. Michele you must have been going through severe stress first instance. So to stop working and end a relationship both simultaneously are going to highly effect your mood. It's about accepting your situation and I was in same situation exactly year ago. Have taken this year to reaccess where I am and make changes. Good luck and be kind to yourself.
