Started a bleed early do I need Progesterone still?

Posted , 2 users are following.

im on estrogen patch 100mcg and cyclical Progesterone 12 days a month. I was on Progesterone continuously but felt so bad the doc. changed it. I still don't love it but can tolerate much better. Usually I have a bleed day or two after the 12 days but this month I've randomly started a bleed and due to start my Progesterone tomorrow. As I'm clearly bleeding and shedding the womb lining I wondered do I need Progesterone this month? Could I not just have a months reprieve since I've had my bleed? Can't get hold of my gyny doc. next appointment is in February, my own doctor knows absolutely nothing about HRT so won't give me advice, pharmacist tells me to speak to my gyny doc. and so it goes round. I am a sensible educated woman and it looks like that's just as well cause no one out there will commit to advising. For goodness sake doctors are contradicting each other, if it wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious. Any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Amanda

I suggest that you see a gynaecologist who has a special interest and expertise in hormone therapy.  My gynaecologist used to let me have one month off a year of the progesterone.  However, I wonder if this was wise as the endometrium thickened.  That gynaecologist retired and my new one didn't recommend having breaks.  However, I still had endometrial thickening and had a total hysterectomy this year.  There was no cancer but complex hyperplasia.  I feel so well continuing with oestrogen HRT but no longer require progesterone.  I used to have mood changes but none now.  All the best.  Lyn

      Hi Lyn

Thanks for replying. I do need to speak with a gyny doctor but that's another issue trying to get the info.

All the best to you, I'm glad your doing well.
