In my experience of a lifetime suffering with anxiety and whose come off antidepressants more times then I can remember, including coming off citalopram on four occasions,I have come to the conclusion that anxiety is a lifetime condition and I am resigned to the fact that I need to take medication probably for life. something i wouldn't and couldn't accept in the past. That's not to say you can't come down to a low maintenance dosage after recovery and things are going well. Every single time I have stopped an antidepressant thinking I don't need them anymore, I have relapsed after several months and have then had to start the long slow process of recovery once more. This includes the dreaded side effects and increased anxiety. Unfortunately, after two months the Citalopram would have completely left your system, your serotonin levels would have dropped again until you reintroduced the Citalopram and the process of your system getting used to the increase will start again.
