I have found I need to take it an hour and a half to two hours before bed to be able to sleep. If I don't leave at least an hour and a half before bed it actually stops me sleeping.

Like evergreen I take my mirtazapine about an hour and a half before I settle down to sleep. I take venlafaxine as well, the combination has worked well. I didn't realise the mirt was having a sedative effect until recently when I started reducing it and found I woke up early in the mornings.

I'm very happy I went on mirtazapine, it saved my sanity and gave me back my life. I started having some slightly better times about a week after I started it, but it was almost indiscernible to begin with, and then very up and down. It was more than a month before I noticed a real benefit at the time, and many months before I felt normal. Side effects were few, just a dry mouth really, except for one embarrassing problem - an inability to reach orgasm. Of course to start with this wasn't a problem because I wasn't interested in sex anyway!

I'm supposed to go on to 37.5 mg venlafaxine tomorrow for a week.then probably stop it. I am worried that I will be sleepy all day once on mirt itself..I'm self employed and still working putting face on..were you on mirt itself to start with? ..also when I read about people going up to 30 mg what they'r saying sounds scary...been on 150 mg ven for 4 years fine, then Xmas

      too stressful back it came...
