Started on Mirtazapine - feel awful, any advice?

Hello all,

I've taken my first tablet of Mirtazapine last night and now I feel horrendous.

I slept brilliantly, however I couldn't wake up this morning and all day I've felt drowsy, dizzy and all over the place.

I've been on Citalopram for a few years, then moved to sertraline - which I've just reduced / come off because i couldn't deal with the side effects anymore. Overall been on anti-deps for about 8 years, but i no longer feel like i know my 'true self'.

I was successfully coming off Sertraline until the pandemic hit, and lockdown has caused my mood to spiral down, which has meant that coming off Sertraline / the withdrawal teamed with the pandemic has made me feel a whole lot worse.

So the doctor perscribed me with Mirtazapine to help with my sleep too, as Sertraline had ruined that for me.

I was really anxious about taking Mirtazapine cause i know how brutal the side effects of anti-deps can be, and after one night i'm already put off.

Is this normal? Do the side effects subside?
