Starting Evorel 50 (today)!!

Hi there.  Just picked up my presription for Evorel 50 (I had a hystorectomy 2 years ago - fibroids) and started getting hot sweats a few months ago.  I'm nervous about taking HRT and so confused as you speak to one person and they say "never take it" and you speak to others "who swear by it".  I'm now very nervous about the weight gain, in particularly as I'm currently trying to lose weight.  I'm not over, over weight but want to get it down before it gets any higher.  My main area of weight gain is hips, tummy and bottom sooooo.... feeling that I don't want to start the patches now.  Are there any ladies out there who haven't had the weight gain described by others so far?  Also, should I wait a little.  I get sweats but not having to change bedding or PJ's.  Just go very hot and then, sometimes, freezing.  I though HRT would help my equilibrium come back with my sex drive too... any information on how others have been affected would be helpful in making my mind up as to whether going on the patches is really worth it.  Thanks ladies (sorry for the rambling) - first time on blogs like this :-)

    Hiya

I would say absolutely go for it and don't be afraid!  I am currently using Ev 50 patches and they are fine.  No side effects.  It took me years to pluck up the courage to try HRT and am so glad I did.  Without them I literally did not sleep, was constantly itchy, had dreadful restless legs zero libido and sex was so painful it gave my partner blisters and made me bleed, apart from the agony!

As for weight gain, i have gradually over the last few years ( started before HRT) put weight on round the middle having always been a size 6-8 I am not 10-12    I think this is normal with or without HRT in some ladies.

I have not gained any more despite evorel.

Let us know how you get on!

    DL xx

Hello philiward, I went onto HRT (Tibolone aka LIVIAL) 23yrs ago at the tender age of 50 and stayed on the same pill from then on. (It is aimed at ladies who have completely stopped their monthly cycle and/or have already had a hysterectomy). I was STILL having occasional periods but my GP at the time - a man, assured me it would be 'fine' for me to go on this particular HRT. Immediately I began to feel wonderful. No more  mood swings, anxiety, sweats, tiredness, gone was the lack of self-confidence, dry skin, dull hair and loss of libido. Suddenly I felt like a new woman. I had no weight gain and my figure stayed much the same always looking slim, and younger than my age. My sex life improved no end and I stayed feeling vital, and alive in every sense until 18 months ago. After noticing slight bleeding I sought help and was eventually diagnosed with cancer of the uterus. The consensus among the doctors/specialists was that probably it was caused through that type of HRT I had been prescribed. Anyway I was operated on then had follow up radiotherapy and hopefully all is well - but I have no regrets. If I could put the clocks back would I take HRT again - YOU BET YOUR LIFE I WOULD. I think HRT, when you are given the correct pill for you, is life changing very much for the better. Just read all the information you can, have regular medical checks and be aware of the small, but significant risks. I just happened to be one of the unlucky ones, however, my cancer was picked up early and I had a total hysterectomy. The down-side is that at 73 I'm now going through the menopause (oh no) with all that that brings - the terrible sweats, the self-doubts and change in figure (help - where's my waist and my boobs?)

YES, yes, yes DO carry on with HRT and if this pill doesn't suit, try another there are loads out there to choose from that are all slightly different. Life is too short to be miserable - give them a whirl and see how much better and fabulous you'll feel. Think about your quality of life and live in the NOW. Let us know what you decide,  LadyPink
