Has anyone experience this before. Im not sure if its ok to do cross trainer after hip replacement. Thanks for any advice.

Hi I think you should stop and ask your surgeon or physiotherapist before doing anything different, not worth risking dislocation take care

Sarah, did you work with a personal trainer or therapist prior to starting riding the cross trainer? Your age can be important too. Not sure if you were visited a gym prior to using the cross trainer. In my opinion you need to build up your leg and core muscles strength first. I started with stretches and used machines starting with light weights. I increased the repetitions after a while . You can increase the weights if you want but increasing the repetitions may be better. This means lifting twenty pounds three times then increasing to six times. After that I went to bike riding with little resistance for twenty or thirty minutes. I suggest you check with your doctor first to ensure you haven't injured the hip. Good luck!!!

Hi Sarah,
You said you were 2.5 years post op, what exercises have you done since the hip op? I started using my elliptical walker at 10 weeks, joined the gym at 5.5 months for step aerobics, pilates and zumba.
Maybe, doing pilates would be more beneficial at first to build strength and muscle depending on what type of exercise you have done in the last two years.

Hi had a thr left side 4mounths ago. Have been doing gym work outs for roughly 3 weeks and been building up slowly.
Initially the muscles tendons get a bit sore but then this goes as you get stronger. It's important for me to exercise daily doing what the team advised. Now I don't need crutches although and have an occasional twinge if I over do it.
Keep going but listen to your body. It will tell you if you push too hard.
Hope that helps. Good luck with recovery
