starting olive oil for LS/BXO

Posted , 7 users are following.

I've started using extra virgin olive on my ls/bxo in hope to improve the appearance of the affected areas (hope the whiteness goes away). Anyway, I know allot of people on here have and maybe even still use olive oil, what can I expect?

Natural. Easy wiping less irritation. Safe. Little weird. But recommended by gynecologist.

I use olive oil sometimes and avocado oil sometimes too. Try to find maybe three things that work for you and rotate them, a month each, or a small bottle and when that's finished move to the next one. LS gets used to things we put on it and they get less effective. Lots of people swear by Emu oil here, or coconut oil (though that one irritated me, but I seem to be in a tiny minority). Read these threads, try any suggestions that resonate with you, and build your armoury!

thanks for that idea, never thought of it that way before. Did you find anything which helps with the skin whiteness? if that's part of your symptoms. I'm using olive oil for the last 2 days, so I don't know yet the full effects of it for me, so far I see it helps with the itching/burning somewhat.

Do Aveeno baths. Oatmeal. Lot of warm water washing. Olive oil . flare ups hydrocortisone 2.5. Skin and condition right now calm. Rest and less stress. Find right now less thinning. Around anus. Any chafing cream. Stay busy. Less thinking about it. Will pray for you

For what it's worth, my gyn said olive oil will soothe but not heal. Said only steroid will cure (control?) the LS. However after using steroid ointment consistently for a couple of months I had a severe skin reaction and have had to stop. Am using olive oil a bit during the day. Use coconut oil at night. Hormone cream now twice a week as I had a bad reaction to every night. (Hormone is for AV. Gyn says LS caused by too little estrogen which has also caused the AV).

I knew nothing about LS prior to this. Still trying to sort it out.

OiS, the estrogen cream has changed the look of the vulva. It's definitely fuller and plumped up. As I understand it all women experience AV, but to different degrees. Some can have it severely yet have no symptoms, yet others are in agony. I decided not to use estrogen 3 years ago when it was strongly recommended due to the AV. I thought it was possible that it may progress slowly and not be an issue. I was fine until the on again off again internal itch started. I went longer than I wanted to to see a gyn, but I was in another state & my insurance is an in state HMO. So I waited 6 months. The current gyn has given me the LS diagnosis which, after she showed me photos, hit like a ton of bricks. I did not want to use premarin which the last gyn prescribed. Am using a compounded estradiol cream. However, the slight itch persisted and I insisted on taking flagyl as I know from past experience it works when other things don't. As I follow up I am taking women's probiotics.

As I understand it neither AV or LS are curable only controllable. The question is what works best for us as individuals. My recent reaction to the steroid was rather alarming. Will have to see what the gyn recommends next. Will probably go back to taking some supplements. Took them for years, but have read that there is no proof they have any effect and I certainly never felt any. It's apparently best to take them in via food as they are better absorbed that way.

Today I started using Aquaphor during the day. I use chilled coconut oil as a vag suppository every night. I am reasonably comfortable and have been except for that slight itch and more recently a dry slight pulling feeling.
