Starting sertraline for the first time

Hi all, i have been prescribed sertraline today from my doctor for my problem with suffering from PMDD (post menstral depression disorder) this means i become very irritable, low and depressed when i have a period each month, i have been given them to take all the time at 50g, i am going to take them tomorrow and i am feeling quite anxious about taking these as i have heard and read people becoming dependant on them and having some horrible side affects.

Is there anyone here who is also taking them for PMDD or PMS? and is there anything i should expect from talking them for the first time? i really hope they are not as bad as they sound!

Hi jess   first off  everyone is different and there are thousands of people who take these meds daily who we never hear of who may not get many or any sde effects but it is best to be prepared  There are a range of symptons that you will find listed The best advice I can gve is to not panic take each day as it  comes  the side effects if you get any will be temporary  and everyone on this site  has had or having symptons but we are all supporting each other  good luck and let usknow how you get on

Sorry to hear your having difficulty.  Hopefully all will be okay soon.  I would not be concerned about your medication.  I work for a GP in the U.S. and I honestly never knew of the difficulty others had until I decided to wean off and I found this site. I started taking Sertraline about 10 years ago and only have memories of weird dreams that only lasted a short period of time.

I really think if your doctor thinks they will help you they will. Don't hesitate, we are all different and get started ASAP so your

monthly symptoms  are relieved. Good luck, Janice

i started on 50mg sertraline on 31/7/14 and like all tabs you have to fight through any side effects you may have as the doc has given you tabs to help you through it, im certain im gonna get through my side effects ( which were really bad )  but like others say all of us are different, i had other professional people tell me THEY WIL WORK  and im believing them all the time, i wasnt sleeping well at all with the sweats etc, but hey DO NOT STO TAKING THEM even if you think your not getting any better smile
