Starting to now get depressed with small hope

Approximately 2 years ago I began noticing a high pitched ringing in my right ear only.  I ignored it at first and chalked it up to stress or a bad cold that caused me to hear internal sounds.

When it persisted I went to see my regular doc for annual physical. He was concerned it came on suddenly with no injury or other infections. I had a CT Scan of my head.

That scan came back with no issues other than saying that I had a very small case of chronic sinus issue but according to doc not a big deal.

I went to a ENT that I has sent my kids to for other issues.  They did a hearing test on me.

My right ear where ringing is has slightly worse hearing the my left. Now over the last year it also feels clogged almost daily but that feeling goes away and for the longest time every day sometimes 3-4 times each day my eardrum would also have what feels or sounds like a muscle spasm.

When this happened I went back to the ENT and again they did a recheck. No changes in hearing no significant loss. My Doc did a thorough exam and said he can't see anything. No sinus issues. Nothing.

Talk about frustrated. But I have SLIGHT hope because it's in only 1 ear and I notice that when I open my mouth very wide or push my jaw forward I can change the pitch and frequency of the sound.

That tells me that there's something perhaps physical related to the jaw vs just having been stuck with this ringing.

I should also mention that over the last 8 months the ringing has almost a second level.  What I mean is that the initial ringing sound I would gladly live with because it was faint compared to this newer louder sound that sits on top of the first.

This newer sound is almost electrical and hissing sound vs the other fainter high pitched ringing.

But like I said I can change the pitch and even for about 5-10 seconds make it stop by opening mouth very wide or moving jaw forward with exaggerated motion.

Now I do that and look ridiculous.

I went to my chiropractor because I have a terrible lower back issue. When it flares up I can barely move.  Nowadays most of the time it just aches. However he adjusted my neck and said my jaw was not lined up properly and performed a few things thay actually seemed to deaden the noise in my right ear. Sadly it only last for a day.

I also thought that perhaps I clench my jaw from anxiety and went to my dentist.  He said I had a small amount of tooth wear so I might.  I know I do because I have actually woken myself up in middle of night by biting the tip of my tongue so hard I drew blood.

I was fitted with a nightgurd to reduce this wear and grind on my teeth and to try and get rid of the clenching.

After 6 weeks it's really had zero effect on it and now when I go to my chiropractor it never really solves the issue.

I'm 44 and in good health outside this issue.

It's only my right ear. Nothing else.  Not sure if this is related but I do have a cataract on my right eye that will need to eventually be removed. It's not serious enough right now but not sure if it can be related to all of this since its right side of head?

In any event I am frustrated and getting angry and depressed.  My wife said she has noticed my change in behavior and I'm afraid I'm taking it out on my kids.

Anyone else ever had or have 1 sided ringing like I have described ?  Could use any recommendations or help.

Sorry for misspellings in advance. I am using my iPhone while watching my kid practice hockey because the ringing is really bothering me today to the point Im not seeking others help online.

Thank you

This may not work for everyone, but it was a miracle for me.  I'd suffered from tinnitus for about 2 years and it was getting worse, even fearing that I had Meniere's(?) disease - giddiness, nausea - and possibility of being prohibited from driving.  Then, about 2-3 months ago, for an unrelated problem, I switched to a completely gluten free diet. Within 2 weeks, the unrelated problem had disappeared and the tinnitus had gone and stayed away too!  I did start doing Pilates exercises at the same time - very irregularly though.  Of course, not everyone who has gluten problems also has tinnitus, but I believe it is the change in my diet which cured my tinnitus.  I don't want to give false hope, but it's worth trying.

Medications can cause tinnitus. I have a rumbling and have tinnitus its severely annoying but i try so hard to ignore it and get balance issues but hard to tell if related. Mine supposedly is tmj related. I got ear tubes in years ago and a splint and it went away but recently returned after a flight hime from having a cold. But i dont know if ear tubes even relate.mthe tmj seems very viable cause the inflammations there is noticabke. It has given me panic attacks, but i am realizing the panic attacks are not worth it. As we age weird things start to happen and from what i have read 70 million people have tinnitus and i believe in china over half the population. Maybe its the lucky ones who do not have it. Some adjust to it well. Others retrained their minds and brains to move about with it oresent. I can feel mine and nighttime at times is the worst but i do clench my teeth a lot and i am trying not too. Definetly worth purchasing a room fan to mask a little of the noise. I have heard posture has something to do with it as well.  So many empty theories. What i do believe is stress, dental issues, jaw and age and arthritic/inflammation play a big role. Even medications can be oto toxic, especially blood pressure medicines and ibuprofen and smoking or drinking. The good news is you can retrain your brain byt keeping busy and nit allowing it to stress you. The stress will be mire irrating if you allow it to defeat your spirit. Good luck hooing the scientist and drs do figure this out so we can all experience peace and quiet
