static bike success

Thanks to the various comments on this forum I took the washing off the handlebars and used my static bike this morning -no resistance and 5 mins only but considering I have not been to the gym for over a year I am well pleased!

    Hi Valerie,

    i bought an exercise bike nearly 2 months ago and have found it very beneficial. I've only just started increasing the tension to level 2 for a few minutes. (I'm nearly 12 weeks post THR). At no time did my surgeon,or physio say I couldn't use an exercise bike and as rotating the pedals didn't break the 90 degree rule, I started riding it at 5 weeks post op. It's a good way of gently exercising when walking outdoors isn't an option.

    Hey, 5 minutes is lots better than no minutes! Now you will be progressing like a bunny rather than a turtle, lol. Just don't get too carried away or you will find yourself one sore bunny.

    I saw my consultant yesterday and was told I could use a static bike again but not go on a real one. Now that I have his go ahead I will buy a one with a back rest as its best for support for my back. I know from going to the gym that I can cycle for ages on a recumbent bike so am sorting out delivery of a new one as we speak

      The recumbent bike is really a great invention and allows folks like me to get some exercise when we can't tolerate the the regular static bike. So good for you getting a bike you can probably use for a long time!!

       Have a great & rapid recovery!
