That is really good news about yr cholesterol dropping without the statins - congratulations!   Mine too is coming down slowly without statins, which I'll NEVER take again.

If that's the only rehab that's available, why not take it?   I travelled that far to rehab and found it extremely helpful.    Why can't you travel that far?   I know distances are regarded differently in the UK than in Australia where I am, but still, worth a try, don't you reckon?

If the statins were affecting your muscles, remember the heart is a muscle and they affect that too.

Hi jude thanks for reply 40 miles of traveling and then getting stung for the outragous parking is not worth the hassle when I could and should be getting these services in my own town is a disgrace I am also self employed and my business is hardly making any money ...Unfortunately this is a catch 22.scenario ....

I quite agree you should be able to access this closer to home, but given that you can't, is there no-one who could drive you?   I can assure you that the earlier you get into rehab and learn what they have to teach you, the sooner you can begin to manage your condition better and slow down the inevitable deterioration.

Graham I feel so sorry for you...I know the pain you're feeling in your foot...I had it too...walking is impossible.....rest your foot on a bag of frozen peas....any frozen veg.....it helps a bit...my gp gave me anti inflamitory pills for it ...but even then ..it took about 3 weeks to get better....

I wish I could take anti inflammatories for my arthritis but they're VERY dangerous for anyone with a heart condition.  Paracetemol just doesn't work as well

Julie...I didn't know anti inflamatories did that....not so good...how we have to suffer ..just to make people rich....never for a minute do you think these statins are going to do so much harm....

......and are a complete no-no for people with peptic ulcers as well.... One reason why I stick to "gastric coated" every tablet I can lay my hands on... From aspirin to prednisolone etc etc...

I do however manage to take Ponstan for my generalised arthritis particularly in my hands  - an old-fashioned NSAID - the other name for which is Mefenemic Acid...might be worth a try Jude?  I have been taking it for many years now and I don't think it is contra indicated in cardiac cases  - well put it this way I was never warned off it... And as I said before my heart is fine ... now that I'm off the Bisopralol.

Thanks for that info:  I googled ponstan and the manufacturer's own leaflet says it shouldn't be taken in cases of "severe heart failure" as well as that it seems to have exactly the same warnings about stomach ulcers, etc as any other NSAID.

I wouldn't be relying on any doctor "warning you off" any medication, you need to check for yourself.  I recently changed doctors after one f....wit presribed migraine medication which the manufacturer warned should NEVER be prescribed to anyone with a history of heart attack or high blood pressure, both of which she knew applied to me.

I'll ask my new gp, because he checks all possible medications on the net and with what I'm already on before writing me any scripts - which of course, is what any responsible doctor would do.
