Stenosis

Hi everyone, I worked on the roof of my house here in Norway and carrying up a roll of felt the 12th one, I felt a pop in my back and after a scan discovered i had slipped a disc. Pills from doctor and rest and 4 months later the pain was more server so i went to local hospital and they transferred me to Fredikstad hospital where i stayed for five days and had another scan which then showed the slipped disc and stenosis in the neck.

Ive been to Oslo hospital for an assessment and been told i need an operation for the stenosis which will be done in 6 plus months time.

The lumber pain has to be done by fredikstad on another occasion.

So i am now unemployed and sitting at home not doing a lot as the pain from the neck and lower back is stopping me from doing the simplest of tasks. Sitting down for an hour is OK, but then getting up is a challenge and the pain is terrible until i have walked around the house for a few minutes. Sleeping well that's another challenge i have not slept for longer than 4 hours in one night since September last year.

Walking the dog is good exercise as i have been told, but my legs feel so heavy, pain in the shoulders and when Amos pulls that's when i scream out in pain getting funny looks from others.

I am worried about the operations to neck and lower back and the after effects from the operations. Do i get my life back or is this something that will always affect me?

I have a lot more symptoms than just pain in back, my water works is unstable i cannot control it, that's something that makes me feel ashamed. Neck pain shoulder pain, radiating pain in legs and arms, numbness in thumbs and no strength heavy feeling in legs and no energy.

Still i am sure there are lots of people worse of than myself and just wanted to share my feelings with everyone and let you know your not alone in this illness.

Regards to everyone

John

that was really nice Amos that you did share your experience, I know there are people who are worse than you or me but it doesn't make your illness any less. I ho[e things work out for you. Illness whatever  physical or mental is always hard to cope with but through the forums you don't feel alone and that's one good thing. Best wishes and hope for the future

Dear johjohn you aren't alone, i sympathise youve had an awful time very similar to me, but there is hope john and you cling to that. I to heard a pop in my back and slipped a disc. I deteriorated over a few months and had awful sciatic nerve pain down my left side, bum, leg and foot i had a discectomy where the surgeon shaved the disc this helped massively but then i had a deterioration the discs at 2 levels disintegrated and i had bone rubbing bone  which was chronic stabbing pains i couldn't sleep for more than 2 hours at a time which was misery to. I underwent a spinal fusion as my problems affected my waterworks im sleeping so much better, no nerve pain my relief is great. My physio told me not to take my dog for a walk as pulling strains muscles and pushes into spasm. Please see if someone can help walk the dog? Walking is great for you im walking everyday. What medication have you been given?

But working as a carpenter will not be possible. For me thats devostating i love my job and have so much work to do on the house.

I walk in the woods and let amos off the lead but here in Norway its illegal to let pets off lead between may and september.
