Steri-strips fallen off after 24hrs

Hi Everyone,
Firstly, I'd just like to say how incredibly helpful and supportive I have found this forum.
I am 2 weeks post THR today and yesterday returned to the hospital for my wound check. The nurse removed my waterproof dressing and was pleased with how the incision is healing. I had dissolvable stitches and glue. The nurse applied about 11 steri-stripes to the wound and said I would need to leave these in place for up to 5 days, but if they began to come away after 4 days I shouldn't worry. Well, it's only just been over 24hrs since the Steri-strips have been applied and up to 75% of them have already fallen off! I think it's due to the sliding on and off bed motion. Had anybody else had a similar issue and if so what action did they take please? I think I may call the hospital in the morning to seek their advice. I'm pretty sure my local chemist stocks Steri-strips, so I should be able to pick some up myself and apply if necessary. Many thanks.

Hi Claire, I had internal disolvable stitches and glue as well. Never had any bandage waterproof or otherwise just left to heal open air (well not quite bare bum, open air) at two weeks I was already massaging cream into the wound, although I was too squeamish to look at it, had the husband check progress. If you think you need the steri strips you can buy them, it may be a belt and braces approch by your health team, maybe call your nurse at gp surgery in the morning for advice. After discharge from hospital I had no contact until my 6 week check, also no PT here either., aware that area health systems differ though. Hope it goes ok

Hi Helen,
Thanks for the info. Wow! No dressing at all. I haven't come across that before. I think I'll give the nurse a quick call in the morning to be on the safe side.
Kind regards.

You're lucky. My strips wanted to stay on for ever! When I finally pulled them off because they would not fall off, I was left with a bunch of adhesive on my thigh! I think you wil be fine!

Thanks Anne. Ouch! Sorry to hear about your persistent strips and adhesive. I think you're right it'll be fine, but will follow it up. I'm a naturally cautious type of person.
Kind regards.

I called and spoke to a nurse from the hospital today and she advised that as long as there were no openings in my wound or any seepage then it was ok to leave the Steri-strips off. Happy days!
