hi, i was sterlized in january this year. ive tried all the hormone contraception and have every side effect going so after i had my daughter i had the copper coil fitted. i had problems almost straight away but didnt put two and two together.Neither did my doctor!! After having interminttent bleeding i was refered to a specialist who said i needed some cells in my cervix cortorising and that my coil was to blame for all my other issues. I went back to my doctors and he agreed that i could be sterlised. Afterwards my periods were fantastic, very light and only for 3 days. 28 day cycle and not painful. But the past two months they have changed and are very wierd!! Last month i was 'on' and 'off' for nearly 2 weeks and this month ive had sharp stabbing pains in my groin and down both sides. Ive been 'on' (well more like spotted)for less than a day and not sure if this is to do with being sterlised?! ive had IBS for 12 years and no its not the same pain.

it would seem your not alone on this, i was sterilized over three years ago and had nothing but trouble since. My periods are all over the place some times extremely heavy some times non existent, i have dreadful PMT every month which i never had before the tiredness and mood swings are unbelievable, i have dredful back ache to the point i feel like im going to snap in half and just recently started getting pains down my left side which actually put me in hospital 3 weeks ago it was so severe. Now for 2 and a half years i have been going back to the doctors constantly complaining about all this and all i get in return is sterilization can not cause any problems. REALLY ??? ive had test after test for my hormones and scans of my ovaries and yet they say they cant find anything, but when i ask them to check my clips they wont and i get the same old spill, sterilization can not cause problems. the doctors have even gone so far to say that i suffer from bi-polar disorder because of the mood swings and tiredness (that i never had before sterilization), they put me on medication, valporate acid to which a massive side effect has now left me with acute pancreatitis that i will have episodes for life. I no longer take this medication as i refuse and am seeking a sterilization reversal if i can prove that sterilization has been the route cause of all my problems over the last two and half years then being misdiagnosed as bi-polar being given medication i didnt need leaving me with a life long condition i will be suing the arse out of the NHS and i believe i have a very strong case now after reading there are so many others that have had the same problems x

Sorry to hear what you have been going through. I too recently had scans and also a laparoscopy and they found that further clips had fallen off but I am assured that this is not a problem at all ie that these clips are floating around in my pelvic area... In addition I am feeling more and more tired to the point that i could sleep at my desk by 11am ! Ive had loads of blood tests and I am not anaemic nor am I going through the menopause even though I done have periods for months at a time! I am beginning to think I am going mad

Hi i was sterilized just over 5 years ago and had nothing but pain since i woke up. dr says its this and that basilcly in my head.I also developed a skin condition which after 5 years i have been told that my clips could of corsed . Yes it took five years for someone to listen. Pain killers dont touch the pain and find it hard to move 1c a month. We should opf all been made aware of the pain it could course before we went through with it. Even though my clips could be the corse of my skin condition (r the course of the pain) they are still reluctant to remove them sad

Hi I am 27 and had 1 child when I was 19 he is disabled and after splitting with his father I decided I didn't want anymore children and begged the doctor to let me be sterilized at 23. I have been in so much pain since and my periods are awful! The worst is sometimes a popping feeling like something has burst this makes me dizzy and go very hot. The doctors don't know what the problem is I am currently waiting for an ultrasound scan and I am hoping my clips are off as they will not remove them unless I pay a lot of money! I want this reversing and would not advise it unless absolutely necessary.

Hi again, I have recently had my investigation operation and they discovered that both clips fell off on one tube and on the other tube one clip is still in tact but the other one was half falling off so they tried to remove it but it fell off and they couldn't retrieve it. They said that even after the clips fall off the tissue has been scarred by the clips therefore you are still protected from falling pregnant. Doctor also advised me that the lost clips do not cause any problems floating around in the body . They found nothing wrong with me but my periods are still irregular and my stomach is always bloated, I also have real problems losing weight. Fact remains my body has never been same since the op. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. !!!

I was sterilized 4yrs ago and the pain during ovulation has been unbearable. Right now i can't even stand upright. Been on mefenamic acid tablets for so long but they make no difference. I had tried almost all methods of contraceptions but all seemed to have side effects. Think i have to live with this pain for the rest of my life. The most annoying thing is my partner thinks am exagerrating. It's really sad to see how many people has this problem. My advice to those who are planning to have it done is to be ready for the pain. None of the doctors i spoke to before it was done mentioned some women experience pain after sterilization. Think i am among the unlucky ones.

Hi, I was sterilised when I was 36 and everything has gone down hill from there. The PMS and horrendous

pain has been a misery and badly effects the quality of my life. I take mefanemic acid, which used to be

called ponstan and it really is amazing, but can take a long time to kick in.

Like cookie1978, I was also told that I may have endermetriosis, but it's not confirmed yet. I don't like my gynocologist and feel he has a God complex. Everything I suggest to help the situation, he just says, "No!" He wants me to try the coil and i'm not having it. He then suggested I have injections called Decapeptyl SR 11.25, but was told that my symptoms will get worse before getting better (didn't think they could get any worse). Alledgedly I can only stay on these injections for 6 months because they cause osteoporosis. I honestly cannot believe what i'm hearing and feel they have absolutely no interest in helping me. Unfortunately I have no money to go private or I would in a heart beat and have a full hyterectomy. I've never had kid, never wanted kids, so can't understand why he wont do that for me.

I honestly don't think I can go on like this every month. I'm 48 and this could go on like this for another 4 years or so. I can't do it.

If anyone is thinking of being sterilised, please check out other options, as I was fine until I got it. They are not being honest with us about it.

Hi, I am looking for advice. Like many of you I thought I was alone with all my symptoms! I got sterilised in June 2012 following the birth of my 3rd child. When I came round from the OP which was done as a day surgery case I was in pain that has never gone away only gotten worse really. I had the clamps applied via keyhole surgery, the Doc even showed me colour photos of them attached to my tubes after I came round. One clamp per tube. about 3 months after the OP I was still in a lot of pain in my right side that sometimes went right across my stomach so I went to see a GP thinking it was infected as the stitches did not fall out until the 8 week mark. He said everything was fine. I was not happy to booked in to see another GP who referred me to my Gyn Doc Who did the op and who I have always found to be great! She did not want to admit that it was being sterilised that caused my pain, extreme fatigue, bleeding everyday and I mean every single day, sometimes it is black as tar and clots aswell which sometimes are bigger. My hair comes out in clumps and the past few months have started developing cysts on my breasts. She did full round of bloods on me, took swabs and referred me for a pelvic scan. All of the tests came back normal and this was in july/august and I have not heard from her since. I need to know how I can get these things out of me on the NHS as I am seriously considering writing letters to head of NHS in my area ( north of Scotland) plus out councillors and MPS as my doc has always had a god complex and never ever been willing to say she is wrong. I am fed up of being in pain and always bleeding. I was not like this before the sterilisation so don't see why they can not just be taken out if I am prepared to go through the ordeal of another OP sad

Hi I was sterilised 4 years ago roughly after my 2nd child. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis after the OP. Since the OP everything has gone wrong......

I get a dull pain in my lower right pelvis, I wake dripping with sweat at night and I have started to get hot flushes during the day. It took me a year to back to the doctors after I finally felt I no longer wanted to live and my mood was so low, They then diagnosed me with early menopause and they have put me on HRT for the next 10 years. But my periods are worse , heaver, more painful and can last from 5days to 25 days. My sleep is affected as I wake up in hot sweats, I have to change my PJ's and the pillow cases, most nights. This is the worst thing I have ever done :-(

I am 39 and I am going through the change - I feel old, depressed, moody, unable to cope with every day life. I am very disappointed with the lack of help I have been getting from THE NHS.

I am thinking that stopping the HRT is the best option, let the change occur naturally and rather than 10 years of NHS fees I will be over this in 2 years. I have a full time job and it is effecting my life dramatically. my mood is up and down and I feel so unhappy now.

    PLEASE AVOID FEMALE STERILIZATION!
