Sterioid injection in hand

Hi, I had a steroid injection for the first time in my hand - I developed problem with my finger following a fall six months ago. I was injected at the base of my finger, today the finger is swollen and the other fingers appear to be a bit bigger too, I have had to remove my wedding ring.

Is this normal and what do you recommend I do? Should I move the fingers or keep them still? Any advice would be very much appreciated. thank you

thank you Frances - I have been jiggling them around and I think the swelling is going down a little. I wish they supplied a leaflet with dos and donts with these things. I dont know if to behave normally with it or not. I was told it would be a good idea (not mandatory) not drive for a week in case I burst the area around the tendon or to lift heavy items with the hand during that time.

Assuming this injection went into the joint, I would hope that it was given by an orthopedic surgeon. Having had a number of these injections, an orth surg is the only one who knows how to give it properly and with minimal discomfort. I had one done once by a regular internist and it caused damage that was irreversible. And no, there shouldn't be swelling at all.

thank you for responding. My injection was given by an orthopedic surgeon, but I will remember your remarks for the future.
