Steroid Causing Irritation

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi all. I was recently prescribed dermovate ointment (clobetasol) for vulval lichen sclerosus. I apply it in the evening before bed, and when I wake up the area is extremely itchy and uncomfortable.

Has anyone experienced this with using the steroid cream, and if so what can I do about it?

Thanks!

Hi, Sophie! I've been struggling with Lichen Sclerosus for years and yes, I've had the same reaction as you. My last gynecologist downplayed the damage that can occur and basically said-use this! Clobetasol. It helped, but didn't fully control my symptoms. I came across a dermatologist that is really interested in helping me. She, in combination with a new gynecologist, have me on three medications that seem to be finally working. In the morning, Estrogen cream.

At night, Clobetasol and Nystatin mixed.

The Estrogen cream (fingertip amount on vulva) has helped immensely. The Nystatin helps with any yeast that might form.

    I wish you luck!!!
