Steroid for perinium

I have been told to keep applying steroid cream to perinium  but worried this will thin skin more as its already thin and causes painful sex

Anyone else have this problem  thanks guys

I have been thinking the same thing. My perineum appears white and the skin looks really thin so I am also hesitant to keep applying it there. I also have LS a little around the anus so I have started treating that area too.

Do you find the perineum is easily irritated even after slowly rubbing in the steroid? I think it's a really sensitive area.

Have you watched / listened to the Dr Goldsteins webinar? it explains that the scar tissue is REALLY thick and needs thinning, the superficial layer of dermis may be thin but we need to reduce the amount of scarring so that the steroid can work. Try and keep the area well moisturised so the skin is supple- tearing with penetrative  sex is a problem so if possible avoid friction as this worsens the condition

Keep the areas REALLY clean any body fluid will cause more damage to the area - so keep it well protected with a barrier ointment of your choice

Good luck and do listen to Dr G - it takes about an hour

White skin is usually a sign of active Ls so you may need to continue with the dermovate. Its worth treating for thrush there as well, the two can co-exist and can be sore -I know from personal experience!

Sue and Kate are right. I had a torn perineum and painful sex off and on for decades before I was finally diagnosed. Dermovate took 18 months to make an appreciable difference. The white area on my perineum is pinkish now and when I tear it's only shallow – it used to be a deep, bleeding fissure. Do be sure to use a barrier of some oily moisturiser the consistency of Vaseline (or coconut oil) to protect it from urine. A bath in water with 1/3 cup of baking soda is old-fashioned first aid most of us agree works. I put a tablespoon in a basin of water every night and squat for a splash.

Thanks Morrell for the advice. What about applying the steroid around the anus? My doctor said treat it. I'm noticing white amongst the creases just outside the opening of the anus (sorry TMI) is it common for LS to affect that area too and is the treatment the same as for the vulva skin?

Absolutely! LS can affect the anus and the vulva, if you look at pics you'll see what they call the classic figure 8 or keyhole pattern of LS where it affects both areas. I have it like that, and the treatment is the same.
