Steroid injection

I was with my consultant today. Bloods are clear he did xray of feet and hands. He is calling me up again in 2 weeks to begin DMARDS Sulfasalazine. I could see red and yellow dots on the ultrasound before the battery in the machine died. Has anyone information on the ultrasound results I have searched for information and they show that's a sign of inflammation being present. He also gave me a steroid injection today to ease the pain I was wondering has anyone experience of this injection. I am also taking an anti inflammatory Tramadol and codeine for pain but I am still in agony. Thanks.

    Hi Lynn

I have been a Sulfasalazine for over a year now, they did work for a while and the inflamation went down but recently they stopped working as well so i have been put on Methotrexate and Sulafasalazine. both of these take about 3 months to start working, You will need to have regular blood tests because of the side effects of these drugs. I had the injection a little while back it was great for the next day but sadly it was for just one day. I have also had the ultra sound but looking at the screen i could not tell what i was looking at apart from knowing i had swelling. I take 4 x Sulfasalazine 4/6 tramadol 2/4 co co codamol and 2/4 Ibrufen daily then i take 3 x 2.5mg of Methortrexate once a week and 1 folic acid 2 days after. I am still in pain daily some are better than others and some days (rarely) i have no pain. There are many drugs they can use to control our condition its just a case of finding the ones that work for you. Which may take some time. But i keep going in the hope that they will find the right combination for me. I have lost most of my grip in my right hand and i can not form a fist or close my fingers but i am hopeful again that this will be fixed. I am seeing my specialist next week when  i hope to discuss the future and what they can do to stop and or repair the damage so far. I also have a condition called Tenosynovitis but because the inflamtion had gone down whilst waiting for treatment i was not able to have the steriod injection but i am on the waiting list for the next 6 months if it comes back.

As i said its a case of find the correct drug(s) that work for you. All the best Rob

    Hi Lynn

hope to put your mind at rest. I've had a no of steroid injections in knees x3 following aspiration on each occasion. And boy, do they work. Sure you will feel sore for a day or 2 then they work! I've also had steroid injections in both wrists, again really effective. You don't mention a specific site? Was it a Depo injection in your thigh/bum? Sorry😳. If so, you are going to feel great in a few days time! I've had several and they always give me a boost - could use one right now actually. Good luck with Sulpha!

      Hi Sheila

Yeah thanks I got the one in my bum. It's the 1st time I have had it. I am currently off work at the minute with the pain I have taken 2 weeks off so far but I think I may have to take more until I get things settled down. I am with occupational health on Friday so I am waiting to see what they advise. I work as a nurse and the long day shifts are killing me.

Hi Lynn, I have written about this a few days ago but no replies, I was diagnosed with PMG a year ago, started on 15 mg pred pain went almost immediately, think I had had it for 2 years nobody mentioned it being PMG and I had never heard of it, I also lost my appetite with it this has not changed. About 3 monthd ago I started to get this pain in my hip , thought it was PMG coming back I was on 7Mg pred so took no notice then about 8 weeks ago one afternoon I stood up pain was so bad I could barely move, luckily I am with Bupa, so went to hip specialist as pain started from my buttocks right down to my feet, could not turn over in bed, like pmg,  specialist was puzzled gave me courtasone shot, it made no differance went back next week   he organised a MRI, that was ok for my age, he then sent me for some kind of nerve blocker to find out if this was to do with my hip or spine, was not my hip, we were now due to go on cruise, obviously because I was unable to walk without the aid of cruches and even then it was painful, saw spine specialist day before we were going he said defernately spine, must have MRI , as for holiday he did not think insurance company would let us travel, what I have not mentioned a week before my husband bought me a travel mate, this is a small fold up scooter that you can travel with it alows you right to plane door, to cut a long story short, after being passed to 6 different people insurance company said we could go, had a wonderful time my scooter went everywhere on the boat even to dinner table, came home mext day MRI on   spine, next day spine specialist, nerve was badly pinched in one of my spine disks, yesterday hadinjection in my lumer region right into   pinched disc under ultrasound to guide the injection into right spot, know it was right because pain shot from wy hip to my feet and my feet went numb, had to stay ih hospital for 3 hours after, so just hope all goes well, thank you for reading this I did not hear from Eileen and wondered if I should be on another forum, can this be caused by PMR.
