    Hi

Yes I have had 2 steroid injections into my left hip, one a year past December and one last July. It's wasn't painful more like uncomfortable but it is over very quickly, they do it in theatre using live x-ray so they get the exact spot

Don't know about you but I was admitted onto a day ward and you go down when it's your turn and if there are a lot of operations you can be there all day. My first injection lasted about 4 months but the last one in July didn't do anything for me so I have a LTHR ON the 29th March.

So good luck and it really is nothing to be worried about.

I had 2 of them a year prior to my replacement. I take pain pretty good. The first shot really did not hurt. The second shot he must have hit a nerve or something but it was only temporary.  The first shot lasted 4 months. The 2nd s**t lasted 4 days. That’s when we decided to get the replacement. I forget I had it. Best of luck

Hi I've had quite a few over the years. I've always been sedated so my hip joint can be manipulated to the right position before the injection. A bit hit and miss on it working for me to be honest.

Generally they top off the steroid with Lidocane and it numbs the site

I have had many steroid shots over the years. The last one was in November. Originally it was a big deal with sedation as if it was a major surgery. The last time I had it done I was prepped for sedation and then the anesthesiologist told me that I could have just opted for three Xanax instead! I had the most recent shot to tide me over until I can have my second hip replacement. So far it is working well - zero pain in that hip.

I've had multiple steroid injections. Mine were in the doctor's office. They did use a machine that showed where they were putting the medication. I didn't take anything prior and just got up, walked out and drove myself home. During one it felt like they hit a nerve or something. It was painful but didn't last long.

I had one in my right and one in my left at a later date. The right one hurt a bit but the whole procedure took about 10 minutes. It helped for about 2 months. I had the hip replaced in June. The left hip injection was done by a different doctor and it really hurt, both while getting it and then for 4 days after. No help at all, even after the 4 days of pain were gone.

    HI,

I've had 3 now in my right hip.  I have to say when I first went I was expecting to be put on a day ward ( ny friend had told me this is what they do) however I went to Oxford orthopaedic centre and was so surprised I was in and out literally in less than 10 mins and on my way home! You can't drive.   I had no anesetic before hand, the anesetic went in with the guided injection by ultrasound and it was fine just a bit of stinging but short lived.  The good news is hat injection was effective within days and gave me pain relief for a year.  Sadly the second one, this time done by exray, but equally as quick and not put on the  day Ward was not as effective.  And my third one done by ultrasound has kicked in again, but took longer to take effect.  So my favourite way is ultrasound!  Shouldn't make any difference really though.   Personally I would find out if it's necessary having it done under theatre conditions and on the day ward afterwards as personally I'd have it done my way any time.  Hope it's effective for you as it doesn't always work.
