Steroid injection

Posted , 4 users are following.

I got diagnosed with RA this week, at my appointment I had an intramuscular steroid injection, but there was alot of information about drugs and tests to take in and so I didn't ask what steroid it was 🙈

It's been a few days and I don't feel any different yet, if anything the swelling seems worse, how long will it take to kick in or is it just not going to work 😰

Hi Ker. Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed. It's horrible isn't it. Give the injection a little longer to work. I have had a few over time, and always felt relief. Hopefully, you will be put on meds soon that will improve things for you too. Try and rest up a bit to . Look after yourself and good luck. Cheryl

Have you been started on any other medication at this stage ?

    Hi Ker,

Where did you have the injection?

In the early days of my diagnosis I had a steroid injection in my backside. I was told it would kick in after a day or so and would last a couple of months. I had no such luck. After 3 days I contacted my consultant and said I saw no difference at all and they said if it hadn’t worked by now it wasn’t going to, so they prescribed me prednisone tablets instead which did the trick. Obviously no steroids are good for long term use, but they were great whilst they sorted out my other meds.

I hope this helps and good luck.
