Hi
i had a grommet fitted in January and a course of four steroid injections one a week for a month. The initial effect was wonderful and all Ménière’s attacks stopped immediately, I had been suffering two or three a day. The injections are painless.
unfortunately my Ménière’s returned as bad as ever after 5 weeks and the grommet came out. I had a second grommet fitted and five more steroid injections with virtually no impact on the Ménière’s.
I had two Gentamycin injections in May which so far have worked perfectly although my hearing has been destroyed and my balance is very poor.
I believe steroid injections can work for some people and they are much less destructive than the Gentamycin with no side effects.
good luck
Paul

Hello Dadlew,
Never considered the grommets because of hearing from so many people on how they did not work. I have done the steroid injections 2 times now, I usually wait till my vertigo attacks become more sever and frequent, like 3 or 4 a week. The first time I got my steroid injections my vertigo attacks slowed done tremendously, that first set lasted me 10 months before my frequent vertigo came back. I'm now on 6 month after my 2nd steroid injections and still very few vertigo attacks. So I assume around 10 months or so is how long they last. I am only hoping that I do not become immune to the steroid used and they would stop working. That is why I wait till I can't stand the vertigo attacks before getting them again. It can't hurt to try, no harm done if they don't work and it really isn't that bad, not real painful. Hope this information helps. My history: MD for 18 years, one side only, server debilitating vertigo attacks, sever tinnitus (which there seems to be nothing at all to help with the tinnitus), pretty bad hearing loss in the MD side ear.
