Steroid withdrawral

Quite a while ago I got down to 2mg, I've been n the for over 3 years and decreased it slowly, I was very reluctant to stop completely because of problem with swelling at the base of my toes and I've had a couple of operations on my toes. My husband has been seriously ill, so I've been at the hospital all day ever day, so my steroid plan went out if the window.
Presently I've been missing doses and at the moment I'm trying to remember to take 1mg every other day, I hardly dare say that I haven't had any 'repercussions. I'd like your advice of what to do from here on please.'

Sounds like you've broken thru a psychological barrier. Good for you. I would try to create a new plan based on where you think you are and see if it works.very slow continued taper from here. Perhaps you're ready...

More of the same I'd say. If alternate days 1mg works - brilliant. If you feel brave you could put 1 day on, 2 days off after a bit. Or you could hang on to your talisman because it is such a low dose it hasn't any downsides.
Sorry to hear your husband's ill - hope it isn't anything too nasty. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

The body produces the equivalent of more like 7 or 8mg of pred in the form of cortisol. That's why many doctors stop worrying too much if a patient can get down to 7mg.

Hello again, I stopped taking pred altogether now along with alendronic acid and omporozole around two weeks ago. I'm getting pain in mr hands, wrists and forearms and finding it painful just to lift a cup of tea at times. Also at times the movement in my right arm is limited whe I lift it. These are all the symptoms I had with PMR, but they are at the moment much milder.
Do I stick it out in hopes I get better or do I presume this is the start of worse things to come. I don't want to go back on pred but I also don't want to leave it so long and I have to take a high dose.
its taken me over 3yesrs to get this far.
Thanks everyone for your advice, hubby is out of hospital for now.
He does have a neuro condition, for the last nine months he has been getting hiccups that last for up to 7 days a time, with a two day respite and back they come. They cause him to aspirate get pneumonia and if he's really unlucky sepsis too.

Makes PMR sound something of a doddle if you ask me! Hope it sorts itself out.
Angelcakes - you would NOT be the first person to stop taking 1mg a day and discover the PMR symptoms come back. Honestly - even that tiny a dose can be the difference between being fine and not. Don't leave it to fester!
Only 3 years??????
