Sticky substance in eye allows me to see better

I woke up this morning and there happened to be a layer of film over my eyes. So i wash my face and rub my eyes a little. Then somehow it seemed like i could see better. My vision wasnt as clear as if i had my glasses on but i could see much better than i normally would without glasses. Then i washed my face and eyes even more and my vision blurred back to how it normally is. Does anyone know what is happening here? Or if this has happened to anyone else?
