I had tlhr aug 2015 and when i walk my hip feels stiff and the muscle doesn't feel very strong. Does any one else have this problem? My gait does not feel natural when I walk either.

Yes,. I am a bit like this after12 months. I go to Physio which helps. But , miraculously, the best thing is.
Pilate's! I find it very hard but it improves my flexibility tremendously.
There are parts of the class I can,t do at all but I ignore those and do my own thing.
But ,like you, there are days when I have difficulty getting up the stairs to bed. I feel I should be better than this .

I understand how you feel it's been nearly 4 years since my THR and there are days when I feel it should be stronger but I've been told to strengthen my hip! I teach 12 classes a week and the classes do consist of strengthening moves but I still feel it's not strong enough. What else can we do?

Hi Margaret,
Can i just ask you, is pilates done mostly on the floor. I know i wouldn't be able to get up! When i asked my physio if i would ever be able to sit on the floor to play with grankids, she said probably not as i have had both hips done.

Like you, I have taken up Pilates to strengthen my core muscles and improve my gait. I'm fining it wonderful, and fun too.
Best wishes

The first week I went to Pilate's I had to stand by the wall and hawl myself up an down! I
It took me ages . But it is getting better and the others are very supportive. I also attempt aqua
Aerobics which is easier. (And no one can see what you do!) But honestly it isn't as effective.

My experience with Pilates was similar to Margaret's. In the beginning I couldn't even lift my leg. Slowly things improved significantly. Initially, if possible, it might be useful to have one on one instruction that is designed to your needs. Also, twice a week helped alot in the beginning. The other interesting thing is that it was not painful!
