Hi im 11 weeks Post Op and when I stand from sitting or getting out of bed I get this awful stiffness like someone pulling a belt tight around my knee??? Does anyone get medication for what I assume is stiffness or do we just deal with it???

Physio suggested I 'forget' I have a new knee and pretend I have a totally normal knee and then try walking normally - I did - and it worked! Still stiff but using mind over matter to pretend it bends like the other one. Brain is beginning to adjust and I can feel myself relaxing more when I walk. Still very hard to stand up after sitting for some time though - pity brain doesn't get that message yet. Going upstairs without even holding now but coming down still need to use handrail and not quite enough bend to be natural but getting there. Only 4 months and remembering those weeks when I could not even think about my stairs reminds me of the progress that we make - sometimes without even realising. Just have to go on and on trying to help ourselves until it comes right in the end touch wood.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their emotional experiences - some days I really, really hate the snappy, snipey, bad-tempered weepy mess that I am! Over the past couple of days I've been sat in tears for no apparant reason, and trying to explain to Hubby when I dont understand it myself?? But today I feel like a different person - more like the old me - and the pain both from the TKR and the OA in my other knee (which is starting to be worse than the TKR pain!) has been minimal. So Im pushing the boat out, and going to try sleeping in bed - but my faithful sofa is on standby!

Hugs to all, heres to a lovely sleep (hopefully!) xx

Hope you had a good night's sleep. I had 5 hrs last night so feel quite good this morning. My husband is sleeping in the spare room at the moment so I don't disturb him, it means that if I can't sleep I can read or check this site.

Lol it was a disaster! I was still awake at 2.30 am, then awake again at 3.30, 4.30, and 5.15! Gave up and got up at 7, had some porridge and tea, which would normally make me warm and sleepy - no flippin chance. Went back to bed at half eight, and got maybe half an hour...... I think Im going to work a little harder than normal today, try and wear myself out lol!

I totally get what you mean about not being bothered with anything - Ive not had my hair cut for over 12 weeks, and let it grow out so I dont have to keep styling it! Im such a tramp.....The frustrating thing is, everyone Ive seen since its grown long and straight, says how lovely it looks! Dunno why I bothered before.....My hairdresser is coming to give me a trim on Wednesday, hope shes not to horrified.....

I hope the Drs goes/went ok, and you managed to get something to help you sleep xx

Been going to the haidresses every 2 weeks ince week 5.  Decided to get my nails done as well as they appear to be breaking very easy, going for shellac  to strengthen them while they grow...or so I have been told.

Feel tons better afterwards.  Even managed to paint my toe nails, now that was a manouver!
