Stiff swollen neck and swollen eyelids

My boyfriend has been having lower back pain for over a month which has recently turned into a stiff neck and tension headaches behind his eyes. He is 25 and normally very fit and healthy, cycling and running most days of the week but has recently had to stop due to the pain from his back and neck. Last week the pain was really bad in his neck and head, particularly in the morning and evening and he had a very swollen right side of his neck where multiple lymph nodes were swollen and sticking out. Luckily this has gone down and the past few days he has woken up with no headache, just a still swollen and achey neck and a sore lower back but he has also been getting increasingly swollen eyelids in the morning. He hasn't had any fever but is quite low as he hasn't been able to exercise. He has been sleeping fine, on orthopaedic pillows and mattress topper and on his back (as instructed by his chiropractor) but it just seems all very odd and i can't help but worry about what it might be causing this. Does anyone have any ideas?
